SOH On-Air #20 is recorded and in the blog. Any questions?
When can users ask multiple choice questions?
SoHOA is awesome!
I wouldn't say awesome. It's ok.
Didn't get to watch tonight :( ah well. You guys know I love you all.
Do you think cigarettes should be illegal?
Depending on what device & platform you're using, there's probably a button somewhere that says "Blog" on it. Or try this; this is where that button leads: sohso.tumblr.com/
I don't like it when you all leave and my screen goes dark and very very silent.
My audio cut out to the robot noises for the last 10 minutes. So I just sat there....in silence.
It's fine. I think you did great!
It was still fun to have you there. It was REALLY nice to see & hear all of you "new" guys.
Thanks. I caught snippets of the last topic, and I was gonna say something, but I couldn't tell where everyone was in the conversation. That was fun though.
Yeah man, you're my #11 on my agreement list. Super cool to meet you!
Almost the top ten! And you too!! Party man of nova!
Or laid back, radio man of nova!*
I just noticed we agree over 65% of the time and I'm #11? That's impressive... You're an agreeable man!
Wear a canes shirt next week rob! ;)
Come on! Who's single? ;-)
Sadly. You're reminding me!
Haha, sorry, I'm very happily married to my best friend in the world. We just had our two-year anniversary a few weeks ago.
Hey, I am too, hombre!
Not me. Happily married.
We could start a club
Smoking is bad, Jive
It was an organic cigarette to be fair
Organic cigarettes still generate benzo[a]pyrene and hundreds of other mutagens/carcinogens. (I'd only bug you about it because I like you.]
Lmaoo I was talking crap, it was no such thing. I didn't know such a thing exists. I appreciate the concern <3
Y'all should have heard this dude when I said my screen name before we went on air.
Haha Beach, that was pretty funny. Admittedly, even I was taken aback for a moment. Great meeting you guys though!
Yoo lmao I was stunned I didn't know who it was I was shocked.
Yeah, you too, rich. You sure seem like an aspiring CEO!
Haha, I'm trying. Just taking it one day at a time.
I really dislike the two party system. We are NOT made of two viewpoints. We can't just have two main representing parties. It's like telling people to fit within one of two boxes. It's just not logical.
You like the 1 party libertarian system? Ohhh yeah anarchy is what you like... Hahahahaha
I agree with what you're saying, but I also dislike the multi-party systems elsewhere. I can often take months to form a majority coalition it's not always one that the original supporters hoped for.
Lol Jake xD I don't even align perfectly with libertarian beliefs. Even a three party system would be bad.
@justrich Why does there need to be a party system? Wouldn't a system in which people vote for the person they agree with most work better? That way people can't just vote for someone based on a label who may or may not represent them.
Hmm, it's an interesting proposal. I like it truly. I think people are drawn to labels though, they want something that they can identify with. If we abolished the parties there would still be people that banded together under a common banner.
Plus we have a lot of voters that vote strictly along party lines without really investigating the candidates. We'd not only need much more information available for voters to educate themselves with, but motivate them to actually do it.
And that would be fine. However, the government shouldn't be forcing people to pick sides. I think it's fine to use labels to summarize beliefs, but the government shouldn't only recognize two of them.
It's harder to vote along party lines without parties. It might encourage people to look into candidates.
The government should not tell us what to do ever.
Lol Jake. *virtually ever
There are rare exceptions.
Well, the government doesn't really recognize them. There are a few independents, but as many studies have shown when you have two dominant parties it's almost impossible to have a strong third party.
Let me put it this way... At work there are two main job roles, Production (which I'm in) and Engineering. Prod is mainly concerned with output and Eng is concerned with quality. While we both understand the importance of the orher's metric, we...
end up butting heads a lot because the two are diametrically opposed. If you focus just on output, quality will suffer, and vice versa. Since we're both focusing on our own metric, when it comes time to make a judgment call we'll eventually settle...
on a solution that favors both parties, while not sacrificing too much to either one. Sometimes it can get heated because we have pretty important goals built around both metrics. But in the end we work it out. This is exactly how I *want* the...
2-party system to work. The main differences I see between what I do and politics is that my job is not dependent on convincing my managers that I'm more right than the engineers and if I were too rigid and bombastic, I'd probably be out of a job.
I should also add that sometimes one of us does end up ceding more ground to the other than we personally get in return. It's all about keeping the interests of the company first.
Eloquently put sir, I agree. That's how I'd like to see it work too, and of the systems that exist I think the two-party system most favors that.
That would be nice if we were all producers or engineers, to go along with that metaphor. Not to mention that while your groups want what's best for the company, I think the 2 party system usually favors beating the other party more than what's best.
Also, all of you gentleman are lovely ^_^
I think voting rights should be restored, at minimum.
For me, some topics resonate with me and I want to participate in a discussion, whether for or against regardless of the vote spread on the poll. Other polls I vote and move on the the next.
Tony my former user name wasn't MoFo it was FoMo and I didn't have any cardboard
I would have to say the difference between Bin Laden and an officer, is Bin Laden made his decisions, the officer may have had no choice.
There is always a choice.
Your entire family tortured and killed, or strangers? It's not an easy decision for most.
It may not be an easy choice, but there is always a choice.
Either way, comparing Bin Laden to a peon is like comparing any random Islamic extremist to Hitler. It isn't a fair comparison.
Alice, you would choose to allow your family to be tortured and killed then?
I don't know what I would do. I've never been in that position, so I can't say. But, I think about the people who hid Anne Frank, for instance. They took a risk, to do what was right.
But, don't confuse that with the death camp officer. He was ...
... an officer, not just a peon. If he rose to that position, he was somewhat willing.
They were brave, the officer may have been a coward. Should we condemn all cowards? True evil is blissfully rare and all comes down to perspective. Everyone always thinks they're doing what's best...
Alice - so the officer should choose to let his family be killed and tortured. Right?
Katz and asjeu, I admit that it's complicated. I admit that most people try to do the right thing.
I also know, from my reading on the subject, that there were many death camp officers who were truly evil and not just innocent pawns.
Remember, this is a hypothetical officer. We don't know anything about him. We can make all sorts of assumptions, one way or another.
But, the hypothetical officer wasn't just a peon guard. By definition, he helped to make decisions. He was a Nazi officer.
I dunno, call me naive or what have you...but even with such an atrocity I always think the best of the human spirit. We can never know the truth inside someone's head, we can only judge them by their actions. As our hypothetical...
Officer doesn't have his specific atrocities listed, I still have to go with redemption.
And as perspective, due to the Holocaust I genuinely have very little family on the Jewish side. An uncle and two cousins, my grandparents that escaped died years ago. My grandfather traveled all of Europe and Israel to find lost family...
Well, we will have to agree to disagree. We did have a nice talk.
After the war was over, and found no one. I understand the impact of the decisions that were made.
Indeed, it was a good discussion.
If you arent that person anymore, then you aren't that person anymore.
Forgive yourself and move on.
I believe you personally can be redeemed from anything. The hard part is getting other people to forgive and to see that you have turned a new leaf
Wouldn't it be awful if you screwed up early on and life and no matter what you do.. You will never be redeemed from it?
I'm assuming this is about the nazi officer? If so, it's one thing to be forgiven for small things, but genocide?
I know it's easier to say this when not actually a part of the situation, but I think genuine change is genuine change. If 80 year old ex nazi is a sweet and loving man, then he is now a sweet and loving man.
But I know I'm also heavily influenced by Christianity in this instance.
I just don't see how anything ,ales up for being a part of the genocide of 11 million people. But I suppose well have to agree to disagree on that
Are these episodes stored, so we can access them somewhere later?
They are put on YouTube. You can access all of them through the blog
I'm sure there is another way, but you can go to YouTube and search Tony Bacos and find all of them
Perfect! Thank you muchly!
Or search YouTube by "tony bacos" & you'll pull them all up. (Don't search by "show of hands"; too many extraneous hits.)
The blog is most efficient, all in one place.
You don't have to scroll & flip from page to page, 2katz? That's what I don't like about poking back so far in the blog. But hey, if you like the blog better, great!
If the heart is in the right place, why not?
And the hearts of 11 million victims of genocide and bigotry against homosexuals? What about them!
The thing about this kind of art is that it is difficult to appreciate if you aren't educated about it.
I would have passed them both by. Banks pieces can be easily copied and I don't have a trained ear for classical music.
It's not that they're not appreciated for their talent, you just can't sell the idea to anyone walking by. And again with banksy, why pay $60 for a piece that is most likely a fake (even though it wasn't)
I think having a wider access to information HAS encouraged me to learn more. I've been exposed to a wider variety of topics and that has motivated me to seek out more knowledge.
Party justin does have a great voice haha
D'aww, thanks! :)
I hope you didn't mind the "party Justin" thing, Tyrian. :)
You were awesome tonight...
Thanks Tony! Nah, I don't mind at all. Susan's already suggested I change my screen name, so that may be happening soon. :)
I don't think he minded AT ALL, Tony!
lol. love it!
Talk about the practice of reposting the same poll and asking people to share it, just because it's reached it's non-subscriber 100-vote limit but you want more responses.
Sharing a poll does not let you get around the 100-vote limit. If the original poster is not a subscriber, the poll will still close at 100 votes, after it is shared.
Right -- that's why the original poster reposted it, to get around the limit.
2katz, I'm confused about what you are getting at. If you repost a question, you will still get a total of 100 votes for your new poll - if you are not a subscriber. I don't see how you can really "cheat the system." Maybe, I'm missing something.
By asking your few followers (different ones presumably) to share it again you hope to get a new sample.
Cole's Pennsylvania accent reminds me of back home.
I have an accent? haha
Pennsylvanians pronounce their long o sounds and a couple of other sounds differently compared to most American accents.
I know Rob, cole and jive, who else is there? I missed the intro
Look about halfway down the comments - they are all spelled out
justrich1 (with tie); tyrianpike
Or there, rather.
I saw you beach! Hi said hello but you prolly couldn't hear me :-))
Oh, sorry, Beach! I thought you'd been listed. I know you're there - & it's good to see & hear you!
Will someone please Velcro Rob's shirt to the back of his chair?
Talk about the poll about the death camp officer.
That was a good poll
Yea kinda wondering where my invite is?
Rob was looking for you. I'm not sure what happened though,
I've been online waiting since like 7.
Yea so you could say I'm just a little pissed cause I emailed him and messages him twice and got no response.
Tony sent the invite to the email I've been talking to you from. I invited you at 8 the same way I did before. I don't know what happened, sorry. We can try another time.
Well I never got anything. It's whatever. I doubt I'll be trying to get on again. Pretty pissed that I waisted my time.
Nooo, we want you on at some point!
That's unfortunate for everyone involved. My apologies.
I'm not going to waist my time again. I was online waiting at 7pm central time and never got jack. So it's whatever.
He probably typed the address wrong or something. Maybe it went to your junk folder. Idk.
Again.. My apologies.
Oh - there is someone new
From left to right, who are the people on air?
BeachSt, Cole12, JustRich1, Rob, JiveYoungKing, Tony, TyrianPike
Beach, Cole, Justrich, rob, jive, tony, tyrianpike
Beachst, cole12 ( I think?), justrich1?, rob, jive, tony, tyrianpike
I don't think anyone knows
Thank you everyone
Who has the loud keyboard?
That was my bad. I muted it. Haha, sorry.
They should just suggest to rename the Fedskins to the Washington Bureaucrats. That should shut up the pc police. They have had that name for 90 years or so, let it be.
As Rebel suggested the other day, the first part of the name Washington, is more offensive these days.
Who just came in?
That's Beach Street
Do you know who the Justins are?
The one that JUST came in is Cole.
Justin # 2 has a cool voice made for radio.
Art?! Do we ever talk about art? How novel. I like it. (Or maybe I should be frightened.)
I would love to talk more about art. I would like to talk about the importance of "The Arts" in education
How has the government shut-down affected you, if at all?
DAMN NO MORE TAXES!
Who's single? Haha
Is Tony high? He just brought up maralizing legajuana...
I love Beach and Jive - this is cool - who are the Justins?
I;m the Justin wearing the tie, AKA, business Justin.
"Party" Justin is tyrianpike.
Bionic man: iurl.no/54no1
I was instantly reminded of Zod.
Hey Puppy, how did you get around the age thing last week? It won't let me change my age and join.
I made a new account entirely and joined from the old email invite.
Cole, you'll have to make a new email just for it...just don't tell anyone.
Broncos vs. Colts. Who do you think will win?
Pat Angerer! Sweet name.
Definitely the Colts.
Angerer is a Hawkeye ^_^
What's everyone's favorite part of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
How awesome would it be if SOH and OA its self became such a phenomenon you actually got a TV program to run based on it? And what are the odds you see this happening with SOH's (seeming) growing popularity?
Kris, I thought you were going to be there.
I tried. There's no good signal with a quiet area here for me to participate.
OK, as long as you didn't get forgotten!
Sorry it didn't work out, Kris. I was hoping to meet you!
I wanted to see the new haircut, in motion!
Lol not everything is a tapestry.
Robs adoring fans :)
@Tony: is there anything that inspired you to create SoH or did the idea just come out of the blue?
The trolling problem.
Wether or not they feel football is getting so dangerous that parents will stop letting their kids play it!
