Virtual Government Announcement. President Trepidhickory will be nominating a new Secretary of State to replace now Vice President NathanE. He will now hear from any Congressmen seeking nomination to be Secretary of State in the Comments.
Diplomacy is one area I'm not strong at, so I would not recommend me, I'm definitely an economic nerd lol.
Hello! Just give me a job and I'll do it!
Is the Secretary of the Treasury position officially open yet?
I think the Supreme Court still needs to vote to impeach
I'm up to it if I'm clearly told what is expected of me so that I perform well and don't embarrass anyone by not doing my job.
I endorse Fiat.
Your views on Israel?
Israel? You want to get me started on that lovely land of the Bible?
Let me put it this way. I believe we should support Israel. Do we need to make them our sole focus? Nah. There's also the fact that the two of us tend to get along pretty well…
so long as we aren't bickering about their relations with their neighbors, or are rude to them. They are a shining example of a modern first world country that in less than a century went from wasteland to the talk of the world (again), creating…
spectacular scientific achievements, and boasting an impressive military for such a tiny country.
But while we're talking about their neighbors, I may as well speak. I think they've done fine. It's difficult to stand on your own ground…
when many call for your destruction, try to frame you, and try to regain control in a multi-millennia long struggle over the land.
Have they made mistakes? Duh. What mortal or collection of mortals doesn't? Even we as a…
country have made plenty of mistakes with the native peoples whom we conquered.
I take various issues with Israel step-by-step with these things in mind. 1. Israel rightfully owns the…
land. 2. Israel has a biblical obligation to not oppress foreigners living among them, or other peoples who live there (think "palestinians"). 3. Israel's enemies are vicious. 4. We don't necessarily need to step into their affairs…
unless requested. 5. We should mostly treat them as any other sovereign nation.
Those are my thoughts about Israel that done to mind right now.
Any other questions about Israel, or anything else related to foreign policy?
Most excellent Fiat. :) Tonight's been a fun discussion.
@veritas… haha, but not yet. @trepidhickory is still serving his term.
I would like to be considered for this position.
What beach said
I am an independent that is slightly right leaning. I am all for reusable energy, I believe in a smaller government, and I think we shouldn't be the world police but we should help our allies in times of war, wether it be aid or troops on the ground.
I believe that we should help protect the Israelis from the Palestinians, for they are our main ally in the Middle East. We also should protect South Korea if North Korea feels the need to invade.
We should make our military smaller, and focus more on defending the US and it's allies rather than using force to sustain "peace" in other countries.
I endorse brian11g for Secretary of State.
I like the yankees
And Brian! I love Brian's political views!
Two state solution simple
I do as well! GO BRIAN!
Brian, please see my thoughts below regarding a two state solution. Will that satisfy Arabs?
Or Political! He'd be great
He is a justice
I love my job as justice!
I would love to be considered for this position
I'd support him
Can you lay out yout foreign policy beliefs?
I think that we should maintain positive relations and maintain an emphasis on free trade. We should avoid negative relationships with any nation. I also think we should have a military stance similar to Switzerland.
The best thing we can do in Russia is speak with Putin and try to fight him, your just going to lose. Diplomacy before Bombs. I like Henry Kissinger's Shuttle Diplomacy. Get more meeting between US and N Korea.
I am more isolationist but then involvest, we should only get involved if we can get UN Security Council to back us
As far as terrorist issues go, the best form of anti-terrorism insurance is to remove all troops from the Middle East, stop attempts to either preserve or change their current governments, and end all government-to-government aid.
Nobody likes foreign troops on their soil. It breeds ill-will.
Sorry ignore me
I fully support Mr.Angerer
I am extremely humbled. :) thank you!
I would like to know where you guys, and all potential SOS stand on Israel.
No aid. No involvement with them whatsoever.
Israel is one of our biggest allies in the world. Have you considered what would happen to them and the Mideast if we abandon them?
Allies? They seem more like a leach to me.
Israel doesn't need our money. They need our protection to continue to exist at all.
Watch Third Reich: Rise and Fall on the history channel sometime. It's shocking.
If they need a foreign countrys protection to exist, do they really deserve to exist at all?
What would you do with the Jewish people?
LateGreat is that you or your daughter?
Ha, I wish is was me. I'm still trying to fix her up with a nice young conservative. ;)
I only see my big brother pic
I see a cute young women with your older brother. GF I assume?
Sorry MJ, I am confusing you. I only see my "big brother is watching". I can't see the changed avatar. But yes, that is her...in honor of the FSU blow out last night! In all her FSU garb.
LateGreat, I am now officially your biggest fan and best friend on SoH, if you'll have me. There id no higher foreign policy priority for the US than to support and defend the sovereign state of Israel, and its capital city, Jerusalem. I support the
return of Gaza and the West Bank and am adamantly opposed to trading land for false promises of peace. I want the "Palestinians" disarmed and given the choice to respect Israeli rule or be relocated to Jordan as originally offered. It's time to stand
strong as the proud, ancient, and holy nation that entered its Promised Land centuries ago. I am a Christian who loves Israel and the Jewish people. :-)
:) Tlaney. We know Israel will never cease to exist. As I always say: the end is written. The history has to play out.
You're already in my cabinet bro
So was Nathan...
And he switched are you saying you want to switch cabinet positions?
I'll always throw my name around. Sec of State is a big title,me it you would need a new Sec of Homeland if you want another election
Mr president, I urge you to please pick a Secretary of State who will continue our allied relationship with Israel.
The Israeli relations are important!!
LateGreat I can assure you I will be heavily influenced by their willingness to support Israel.
I ❤️ Israel!
Whoever does end up getting this position, for your own good and the rest of us' sanity, please for the love of God be active. Because if not I will impeach you!! Muah haha
And Trepid please don't select somebody that has only made like 20 comments lol
If they meet that requirement, they have my endorsement!
I want to be considered for Secretary of State.
As Secretary of State, I will use a policy that is a cross between Dollar Diplomacy and Big Stick Diplomacy that will use economics and trade as a primary platform for diplomatic relations
I also want to focus on improving our relationship with India in order to gain a strong ally in that part of the world. I am committed to being full active in in order to fulfill the duties as Secretary of State if selected.
In regards to immigration, I support immigration reform specifically making the immigration and citizenship application process simpler and faster
How do you plan to be an ally with India and Pakistan at the same time? keep in mind that Pakistan is rumored to have nuclear weapons.
I understand that there is some tension between India and Pakistan but they are not enemies. I think if we ally with both countries we can reduce the tension between them and bring a source of diplomatic stability in the Middle East
Just like we did with Israel?
Tell me how you expect that to work if they hate each other and can't even resolve disputed territory still?
They have shown that they can work together through the 2001 and 2005 earthquakes in each of their countries
But must we rely on natural disasters? would you be one? how would you work that?
Trade between the 2 countries has increased in recent years, they have maintained relations through SAARC, they have cooperated over Indus River system
All of this is evidence that shows India and Pakistan can cooperate which can be furthered if the U.S works with both countries
Why should we be concerned with Pakistan and India?
You mention favoring big stick diplomacy - to what end? How do you see America's appropriate place in world affairs?
We should be concerned with India and Pakistan because a good relationship between them along with Israel's stability can bring much more peace to that region
In world affairs, the United States should only be concerned with protecting ourselves, our direct interests, and supporting our allies. I support the United States's involvement in the United Nations.
but if they're great friends, then what can they offer to the stability of the area?
The United States should be a diplomatic not militaristic advocate for peace and democracy
Their united strength will counteract the regions instability and conflict. They can also be a platform for negotiation
Your stand on Israel?
Israel- ally who we should support But regarding Israel-Palestine conflict, a two-state option is what I favor
Arabs have 600 times the land of Israel. Will Palestinians be happy with state recognition? Israel has given back lots of land, it's never enough. Will they leave Israel alone if they are recognized as a state? Just throwing out ideas..
Late, it is important not to confuse Arabs generally with the stateless persons living in contested area. None of the countries supposedly siding w them will grant them citizenship. They mostly use their state of flux as an excuse to attack Israel.
when they have statehood they will find another reason to attack Israel. The goal is annihilation of the Jewish people, nothing less. Arabs have 600 times the land of Israel. Any one of those countries could carve out land for a Palestinian state.
Who is "they"? Why would statehood affect things one way or another? Like I said, the other countries don't want these people and won't take them.
What is all this "they" stuff? Not only is that painting a large group of people with a broad brush, but honestly, it's moronic. You do realize there is more than just Jews vs "they" right?
There are kurds, persians, turks, and Arabs.
Not to mention Sunni and Shia Muslims that can't get along. But for some reason far too many people have no knowledge of this and so we hear this "they" stuff.
Like Bethany said, nobody wants the refugees. Plain and simple.
The Palestinians had that land and were kicked out. The situation is nothing short of sickening. The Palestinians have every right to have a state there too.
It was Britain's land. They gave it to Israel. And again, do you think the Palestinians will be happy when they get statehood?
(They likely will, btw, but rebuilding the temple will also likely be part of the deal. It's already written.)
"They" was Palestinians. I only have 250 letters. :/
I say again don't lump the Palestinians in with the other "they's". So your "600 times more land" argument is irrelevant. They very much could be content with it. But that doesn't mean that you oppress that many people out of fear.
Late, when you say "already written," if you are referring to religious texts, we can't make plans for international diplomacy based on those texts (except to the extent that we need to bear in mind that a lot of people in the region may find
religious texts persuasive and/or prophetic). My point is less that the two-state solution solves everything and more that it is slightly more complicated than "Arabs/Palestinians are bad guys." Btw, my brother in law is former IDF and an Israeli
citizen. I am far from anti-Israel. I want peace and justice for as many as possible. Unfortunately, solutions are not easy to find.
Z, you didn't answer the question....will Palestinians be content with Statehood? Will they live in peace with Israel with statehood.
I'm not even going to claim to know the true answer to that. But I no doubt support it, like I said, your basis of why you don't is completely false.
Of course we shouldn't Bethany. And it is quite opposite of what you say. It is written because it will happen. Not we make it happen because it is written.
Israel existing again was written. The temple being rebuilt is written.
I never said I didn't support it z. I only don't think if Palestinians get statehood that the war with Israel will stop.
Late, I'm not trolling and I'm not intentionally starting an argument. But honestly, do you know what/how the modern Zionist movement started? Who it is? What they have done? Their intentions?
Late, what I mean is that when you say "it is written" it sounds like you mean it as in "therefore x." If I misunderstand your meaning I beg your pardon. I am just saying that international diplomacy must be based on universal/pluralistic bases. And
I saw your comments above to tlaney so I now know where you are coming from and why you have the views you do on this situation.
Like I said, it is an honest question because I personally think that many people have good intentions and are simply misguided on this topic.
while it is reasonable to premise diplomatic solutions in part on the likelihood of compliance with treaties, it can't be a prerequisite to demonstrate guaranteed compliance w certainty. Also FYI mainstream Israel generally favors 2-state solution.
I think this is something you should read. You don't have to agree with everything it says, but it brings up a lot of good points.
"The New Testament teaches that Christians are to focus on the heavenly Jerusalem, not the earthly one, John 4:21, Galatians 4:24-28, Hebrews 12:18-24."
Agree z. It is a very tricky issue bc there are a lot of innocents and genuinely well-intentioned people on all sides. I wish I knew a rock solid good, workable, and fair solution.
"We are told in Hebrews 11:13-16 that even Abraham has no further interest in a restored Jewish state on earth, because he is in a much better place in heaven."
I think there is a large chunk of the Bible that many people ignore on this subject.
Yes, I personally believe the history of Israel has been foretold. From beginning to end. But, this thread really isn't the place for a long religious discussion. I support Israel's right to exist and prefer a SOS who supports that as well.
Exactly. I think most people can agree that it is a very tricky issue. Both sides have committed atrocities, that is a fact. Both sides have innocents that are being harmed. It is a real shame and a perfect solution is honestly nearly impossible.
Late, that is completely fine and I totally respect your right to believe that. I too believe Israel has the right to exist as do I think the vast majority of Americans. But that does not provide a ready answer for how to approach diplo in the region
I said "exactly" to Bethany, not late! Lol
Late, that is fine that you believe that. But I only supplied like 5 bible verses. It would take mere seconds to check out sometime. It would be interesting to see how you can explain that.
Z, I skimmed through and have read in depth very similar. They can never explain away the fact of Israel's current existence and the aligning of world events. But, only time will tell us, right? We have to agree to disagree....again. :)
Also, that's why I always say to watch for the temple rebuilding. At that point we should not need further proof.
Well we will have to agree to disagree there too lol
I'm not ready to do anything just because a temple is built. There are coincidences
I'd like to be considered for this position.
Tell trepid your views and goals, plus of you can be active
Just so that people can reference this poll if you go up for nomination
Thanks Steve and lake!
I'm a noninterventionist, but I understand that decreasing our military presence would cause a power vacuum. I would negotiate to reduce trade barriers with all nations. I have extensive knowledge of international politics. I also believe that war
should be a last resort and that negotiation should always be attempted before taking such drastic measures. I willing to compromise with other nations and fellow congressmen to get a deal that will benefit both parties. I literally can't stop...
using this app so I'll always be on here.
You can put me in the hat!
Tell trepid your views and goals
Make sure you can be active, no more impeachments
I am pro life in most circumstances,
Or else I will IMPEACH YOU!
⬆️ I endorse Brian! ⬆️
I am in favor for reusable energy, I stand for immigration reform, I am against affordable health care/ Obama care, I want to reduce military spending, taxing businesses that move to foreign countries support those that stay in the US, improve
SoS doesn't really have anything to do with our healthcare
Our education system, create a larger gap for the middle class and help the middle class, try to creat jobs by hiring private companies to do public work projects that's all I have if you have anymore questions please ask
I am active I go on the app almost every time I receive a notification
I second Steve's endorsement of Brian.
But what about foreign affairs. I would have to vote against you on domestic, but I don't think you highlighted many foreign policies there.
I mean I don't think we should have so many troops in other countries we need to STOP being the "world policeman" great point to bring up sir
Your views on Israel Brian!
I would like to thank all of you guys for your support of me, I was humbled by it. I received 78% from the Democrats, 79% from the Republicans, 67% from the Independents, and 77% from the Libertarians. I'd like them to be at 100% though lol
