Have you ever had mead (the beverage)?

A few times.

In Russia it's called medavulka, and it's delicious.

Is the Russian version any different?

It's pretty much the same, but the homemade versions often have herbal infusions.

I love mead. Semi-sweet meads are a particular favorite of mine.

I thought I would like it (tried it a couple of times) but turns out I really don't.

Haven't tried it. Although I've been tempted to. It's becoming a popular thing to homebrew.

Love mead do much. Missed out on the MD Renn Faire this year, but I like the mead there.

If the kind you got is too strong, you could always try another brand. Not all of it is quite like that.

I might in the future, but for as strong as this is, it isn't bad. I do want to try the carbonated variety, though.

Ooo, that sounds good, I've never tried that before.

The overall taste is something of mix between champagne and straight honey, with a hint of white rum and baked bread (so it's still fermenting, even).

Mead is usually available at your local Renaissance Festival, along with mulled wine. Mead is great, but gimme more spiced wine. Yum!

Wow, I'd expect it to be a bit weak, but I'm not sure why I think that. I didn't even know there were commercial sources of it.

I would have thought the same thing, but it is very, very strong. It's sweet also, but the alcohol content definitely seems to be stronger than the sugar content.

It seems mead has had a renewal in interest recently. There are a quite a few small breweries making it now.

I mean honey does have a ton of sugar, so there's a big potential for alcohol fermentation. What did it taste like? Was it good? I'm super curious.

It is pretty good. For my personal tastes I think I'll be watering it down and/or mixing some neutral juice into it, just to cut the alcohol a bit. I'm going to try mulling some of it tonight too, just to see how it compares.

Does it taste like honey at all? Is it fizzy like beer? I'm gonna have to try it soon.

This isn't carbonated at all, though.

No problem. I picked this up at Trader Joe's, so if there's one near you, they may stock it.

Looks like I can get two Colorado-made brands right at the liquor store I go. Cool. I'll try it sometime.
