I have to do a skit for psych class about Sigmund Freud. While I know about his life and ideas, I'm having trouble coming up with a five to ten minute sketch involving a tv interview & interviewing a patient. Can you help me with some ideas?

Set up the interview and about a min in have Freud start to psychoanalyze the interviewer. Then in a couple more minutes have him completely take over interview and start telling him he harbors depraved desires and stuff.

Ask him about how him being the favorite child may have affected his theories. He was obviously his mothers favorite and you can see the correlation in his stages of development.

I once did a skit in my psych counseling class, in which I played a really rebellious angry teenager in a counseling session... It was a ton of fun to play somebody that ticked off. whatever you do make the character memorable!

Anything in particular you remember?

Just that my character was really angry and bitter toward one of her parents, and we were playing out the challenges that a family counselor would face in that situation.

He seemed very self centered to me. The man coined the term projection and he did it to everything.

He spent weeks dissecting eels looking for a penis, no luck so he switched to looking for a libido. Say what? Get to your fish monger soon.

I doubt my teacher would let us talk about that

Remember, Freud was molested by his mother, and somehow twisted that into everyone wanted to be molested by their mother.

Episode of the TV show Friends where Joey is in a musical called Freud! Check it out, they only show a short bit, it's funny though. Making fun of penis envy. Lol

Idk much about this guy, but whenever I present I always try to get some audience participation going. A prop that's more or less related is also always appreciated.

Crucial question: is it supposed to be funny or instructive?

10/19/13 9:53 pm

Can be funny, needs to be instructive, so both

You need a few SOHAH hinted statements if you know what I mean

10/19/13 9:39 pm

That would be the interview with a patient most likely.

It's called a Freudian slip for a reason :P he can make a few

You mention herr mj, something about an after hours topic. Why? Is there something you are thinking about? (Jk)

Oedipus complex is freaky weird. That's all I got.

10/19/13 9:36 pm

True. I'm going to ask if we can bring up his views in religion or not. I personally think his views were wrong, and they're so controversial I don't want to get a lower grade for bringing them up without clearance

10/19/13 9:36 pm

Well he did pioneer the idea of the subconscious. You could play off that in the interview. Like Freud discovers the true subconscious reason behind all the interviewers questions, haha.

10/19/13 10:29 pm

What were his religious views? Can't say I've heard them, but from what I know of the guy I doubt I agree with them either.

10/19/13 10:38 pm

Well he was raised a Jew, but came to believe religion stemmed from an inferiority complex and was a neurotic disorder. I absolutely disagree with him

10/19/13 10:50 pm

yea that is interesting. Inferior to what? To god/s I guess? So we create god/s b/c we feel inferior to god/s? That can't be right. That we feel inadequate, or out of control of affairs, so there must exist something superior that is in control?

10/19/13 11:09 pm

The latter was basically his view

He also thought God was created by mans imagination simply because of rejection and dissatisfaction with our actual fathers.
