There have been calls (mainly by pundits) for republicans who had a major role in the shutdown and the debt ceiling debate (such as Boehner, Cruz, etc) to have sedition charges brought against them. Is this too far, or should they bring charges?

I recall hearing calls for Obama to be impeached when he wouldn't negotiate over ACA/Obamacare....turnabout is fair play?

Personally I think both that and this are childish. Although one of my teachers said they should be under the literal letter of sedition in us law. And he's a moderate republican

Childish is a good adjective. There is a component of grandstanding here - everyone wants to be on the Sunday morning talk shows.

Absolutely stupid. They are voted in to represent the views of their district. Maybe they actually vote that way.

Not just too far, but just as stupid as conservatives calling for Obama's impeachment. It's just stupid.

Had they gone beyond the 17th, yes. They didn't, so no.

Wasn't it only earlier this year that right wing pundits wanted to charge Obama with sedition/treason after Benghazi and Fast & Furious?

Yes and both sides are wrong

Way too far. I had never heard of these kind of charges before until I looked it up. They seem kind of anti-American. I'm not sure I would ever support these charges against anyone

Unless it was ACTUAL sedition I wouldn't either. This was incredibly stupid but not sedition

Matt - what would actual sedition be?

To conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof.
There's a part dealing with hindering or delaying laws but that requires

An actual attempt to purposely hurt the country by hindering or delaying it

Sure, why not? With the way they call for impeachment at the drop of a hat, I kinda feel it is their turn to be on the wrong end of a completely ridiculous hearing. I'd hope they'd learn from it, but I am too much of a realist.

I don't take any of that serious. It's the same as people who want to impeach Obama.

Who is calling for this? What stupid pundit is calling to charge leaders democratically elected for a crime when they doing who they thought was right? You want a fight, go fight the system that enables morons like this to get elected, follow the $$$

I think Rachel Maddow did, I know being liberal on Facebook is shouting it at the top of its lungs

She's pretty much the liberal version of Rush Limbaugh. I have as little respect for her as for him.

Tom, Limbaugh & Maddow isn't fair. Seriously, if you think they're the same then you haven't listened to one of them. Ed Schultz & Sharpton are like rush, not Rachel. That's why I'm surprised its her but he said he "thinks" so I'm going to check

They aren't quite the same ill admit, and abo's examples are probably closer. She IS biased though.

Schultz I know very little. I can admit Sharpton may be a better comparison to Rush.

Fine, then Maddow is Hannity? They're all extremists and have lost their minds.

That's likely closer mod.

Personally, while I disagree with the republicans,a dn while I think the shutdown was mostly the fault of the GOP (about 75 25 GOP IMO,choice or take a bit) this is just way too far. It's one thing to say "Cruz was an idiot" or something

On those lines (or the revers if you feel it's the democrats fault) but sedition? That's just too far.
