From SpeakerAFly's virtual congress... All NASA property is to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All functions of NASA are hereby to be privatized.
"...A bill presented by MrAngerer..."
Research and exploration is poorly suited to privatization, because the motivation to seek maximum profit is always at odds with the goal of seeking knowledge regardless of potential profit.
So people who work in those fields will suddenly stop caring about obtaining more knowledge about the universe when there is a profit motive? Profit is also based on increasing efficiency which would lead to better ways to get to space. Knowledge is
knowledge. Any knowledge that will lead to the advancement of the human race can also be profitable.
It's not that the researchers will stop caring, their funding will disappear.
When research indicates two paths for further investigation, one with a strong likelihood of producing profit, and one that looks like it won't, that entire branch of potential knowledge is neglected. Profit is a poor motive for anything.
Very against, NASA has been a huge success and given us many new technologies. Also, we do t want just any old clown with money building rockets, would you feel comfortable if Donald Trump had several large rockets?
I'd love to vote for that bill, but you see I really need a dam built in my district before I could give it my full support. ;-)
And my district needs more cocaine and prostitutes to be delivered to my residence.
Great idea. NASA could certainly be run privately and for profit, just look at the accomplishments of SpaceX in its short existence.
This is possibly the only current government function I'd favor privatizing. We don't need to be spending money on space exploration.
Because I don't want people buying that stuff. Space is not just some pet project.
It is very important for a lot of reasons.
It has helped with technology, jobs, and much more. Wouldn't there also be a national security risk?
It is not merely just "space exploration".
I think I'm with you Zman.
What is "I think" doing at the beginning of that sentence????
Haha I feel like I'm not educated enough on the subject to say for sure what I think. I know I'm biased because my brother is very passionate about this, so I've heard things from him. I'm looking stuff about it now though.
What I'm reading now is saying that the private sector isn't suited for long term projects, and NASA is full of long term projects.
Yes, I know it's given us other stuff. At a very very very expensive price. Not worth it.
And Hayley proves the Internet does in fact make us smarter!
The only difference between the public and private sector is that one of them depends on efficiency to be successful.
