Is there any group of non-violent offenders that you think are out and out criminals regardless of motivation and/or extenuating circumstances?

Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, Drone Murders.. Oh sorry those are violent. Let's go for the politicians that ran the scams.

No. Those who are criminal usually have some sort of extenuating circumstance most likely mental health.

Most of them are violent offenders, though. Maybe not by the time they're in that position, but they had to work their way up to that.

I shouldn't be surprised by how many people have voted yes with no explanation but I am.

I'm surprised at how many voted No, considering how many SOHers say they consider Obama and/or many other Democrats to be guilty of treason.

Nope. If you haven't harmed anyone, you've warranted no retribution.

What about people like Al Capone?

They couldn't prove that he'd hurt anyone, but they put him in Alcatraz for tax evasion.

That's exactly the sort of thing the rule if law should prevent. If you can't prove something, you can't convict for it.
And no, I don't think think tax evasion makes one a criminal. Tax collection on the other hand...

White collar criminals are non-violent but they're still horrible, greedy people who ruin lives.

Oh, we're talking about the group as a whole?

In that case, no. There are some really bad non-violent criminals, but I can't think of any group that doesn't have at least a few people who are victims of circumstances.

How about just embezzlers, usurers, and fraudsters?

Most of them, perhaps. But all of them?

I don't know, but I feel like an individual who is doing one of those things would have to be pretty stupid *and* naive not to know it, at least deep in their soul where they're truly honest with themselves.

And I'm talking individuals, not corps.
