I took the PSATs. Let's just say there were many cows, potatoes, poor car venders and cute gay relationships involved :p

The PSATs were rather crazy this year. According to some passages, 50% of Americans have never seen a cow and therefore they should had cows in zoos. Also, there was a weird story about a guy who seemed to have fallen in love with his translator.

Haha...well, the PSATs were interesting. In the reading section, there was a story about a Japanese guy who went to Greece and needed a translator. Some of the sentences in the text hinted that the Japanese guy was attracted to his translator

If you're familiar with the term shipping, it means wanting two people to be in a relationship. Most of the kids that took the PSATs ship the Japanese guy and the translator

I am so glad I'm done with that test

I did a ton of SAT prep, got a 2000/2400. I tried the ACT just to get some perspective and got a 21/36. I don't think I need to tell you which one I used on my applications. :P

ACT because when I took it I got the highest grade in the whole school and it showed I only missed 3 questions

ACT but many have told me that I may score better on the SAT?

CDFL alt right, alt snowflake
10/17/13 6:52 pm

Really just depends, I scored much higher on the ACT for a variety of reasons. I'd go ahead and try both

I've took the ACT twice and I'm taking it again next week. I need to find SAT testing locations in my area then. Thanks!

It's definitely worth giving both a try. Like I said below, I preferred the SAT because the sections are shorter and there are more of them, rather than the ACT which has fewer sections but each is quite long. The shorter sections and constant breaks

... on the SAT allowed me to continually gather my thoughts and re-focus myself, whereas during the ACT, I was just losing focus after awhile. I remember at one point glancing at the girl next to me and seeing she'd completed twice as much as me!

Zealizabeth Probably the hospital

I think that's what I need! Shorter sections and breaks to recollect myself. I always have a habit at looking at my neighbors paper to see how far behind/ahead I am as well.

The ACT doesn't take off 1/4 of a point for every question you get wrong. I took it in 7th grade and made a 22. So, ACT is better in my opinion.

Octopus
10/17/13 7:51 pm

Agree. I was too OCD to leave a single question blank on the SAT. It gave me a lot of anxiety. So that made me do worse.

Octopus
10/17/13 3:53 pm

I took both, even though most schools in the south really just care about the ACT. And that ended up being a good thing because I preferred its organization and did better on it, made a 33.

Tips for the English section: Many of the questions have two answers that both seem correct (because they are grammatically), but one will contain words that are redundant, so that makes that one wrong. Be on the lookout for that! :-)

Octopus
10/17/13 7:59 pm

Also, an obvious one but still important: if you end up not finishing a section, let's say you still have 5 questions left at the end, make sure you mark an answer for them anyway. ACT is nice because it doesn't take off points for wrong answers.

Thank you! That makes sense.
English is my strong point it's the Science that destroys me!

Octopus
10/17/13 8:15 pm

The science part is ridiculous, so don't feel bad. Most people run out of time to finish it. I'm a junior in college in my third year of biochemistry, and the science section on the ACT is what I did worst on. Lol. Just try to recognize the key...

points of information you need by skimming through so you can save time and move quickly enough to finish. You said you're taking it again next week? You'll do great! :-)

I'll be taking the SAT - that's the test that Ivy League schools look at.

Octopus
10/17/13 3:50 pm

Are you applying to Ivy Leagues? Just a warning, a near perfect SAT score and a 4.0 isn't enough to be likely to be accepted.

Cole12 ...
10/17/13 4:22 pm

O: I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing yet. But yes, I'm aware that more is required to get into top schools.

Octopus
10/17/13 7:49 pm

I know you're more than smart enough to attend one, but the process is a little skewed. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I was planning on taking both and then did better than expected on the SAT, so I thought, why bother with another excruciating test??

Really though, ACT, even though my score was disappointing, it's decent enough to help when I'm going in for applications.

SAT. Never even gave the ACT a thought.

Really? Interesting...oh well. Bit too late now.

cornybread The Large Malus Fruit

It's funny, I had more trouble concentrating on the ACT. The SAT has more sections but they're like 10-20 minutes long, but the ACT has long sections and I found myself losing focus and falling behind. But of course, everybody tests differently.

No...I hate them. I also hate this a-hole who got into Stanford and only has a 2100 lol

rlands
10/17/13 7:00 pm

Only a 2100? That's not by any stretch of the imagination a bad score.

And you told us about your athlete "friend" going to Stanford who just plays calculator games all class.

CDFL alt right, alt snowflake

Not good for Stanford

cornybread The Large Malus Fruit

I got a 2000 and my friends were all like "whoa what!!!" It was actually all my best scores for each section from both times I took the test. You're allowed to do that.

The SAT was annoying in terms of content but in terms of layout it was so much easier.

ACT.
But I'm not under 21. I'm old :)

I don't think that "under 21" is a targetable demographic group for subscribed users. I'm looking at the list of target keywords I copied from the blog entry of 9/6/13 and the only age-related one I see is "SOHAH:" for *over* 21. I don't know if

susanr Colorado
10/18/13 4:24 pm

Tony has updated them since then. It would be nice to have an "under 21+" target, though.
