Will a comprehensive immigration bill be the next big item on the governmental agenda?
God, I hope it is.
The next big item on the political agenda is how to avoid a citizen's revolt, getting rid of obstructionist political opportunists and hacks.
Afraid so.... The tea party better shut it down.
As a Texan, what are some ways in which it affects you?
We all should be so ready for this. It needs to be fixed. Hopefully it don't get bushed down the road. A real comprehensive immigration reform bill now....
Nah we're too busy with kicking financial cans two feet away and then doing it again and again and again...
I'm bringing this up because you're going to see a surprising push from establishment Republicans to try and get this through. Their focus is not "illegals". Their focus is to reform the system. They are being pressured by business (their donors)
to make changes to a horribly screwed up immigration system. Yes, Democrats will also want to address the existing immigrant population, but the GOP is being pressured to fix the legal immigration system. If they don't, say adios to the funding
they would expect to fight in next year's elections.
We didn't fix the debt and deficit......
Sure, after 100 more quick symbolic votes on obamacare just to make sure the same people still vote the same way.
We have immigration reform. It is just like waiting in line for lunch food at school; you get in line.
Which, is exactly why we have the problems we do.
It is not good economics to bring a lot of unskilled workers into the US.
Political, that is not what would happen. If we were to deport every undocumented immigrant today, tomorrow we would see a huge contraction in the economy.
....and we would see a need to increase entitlement and welfare spending if illegals became legals.
That's still not true, these hardworking immigrants actually put in more into the system than they take out. America needs their participation in our workforce.
they may have the opportunity to become citizens if they go to the back of the line.
Under any sort of reform plan, they would still have to wait a significant amount of time to become fully citizens.
During the Government "shutdown", Obama let illegals protest, while trying to keep Veterans out. If that don't tell you that the President is an anti-American, nothing will.
Those weren't "illegals" (although, I don't doubt there were some there), as the Drudge Report tried to mislead. Those were the same people involved with various protests held around the country over the last month.
BTW, Obama is not Park Services.
...or, is everyone of Latin descent an "illegal"?
And Cowboy is also wrong about let some protest while keeping others out.
I'm positive Obama's pals, at La Raza, were well represented, Rj.
And you both seemed to miss the fact that Obama didn't try to keep them out. Its shameful disgrace.
Keep American citizens from exercising their 1st Amendment rights?
And who didn't sign off on those death benefits? Oh right it was the lawyers fault.
Like the administration tried with the Veterans with barricades? Come on now.
Trust WWII Vets more than the Racist, anti-Americans, in La Raza. I bet every Vet had an ID.
"And who didn't sign off on those death benefits? Oh right it was the lawyers fault."
Congress cut funding. The rushed to write a bill to fund the military. They didn't include those who were killed or death benefits. This was brought up during
debate (see the youtube video where Levin told them this was going to happen). they rushed the incomplete bill. The Pentagon followed the law. They did exactly what congress told them (and didn't tell them) to do.
That was the fault and only the fault of congress. Not lawyers. Not the pentagon, Not the president. The problem is you are uniformed and live in a bubble. You pump each other full of BS and believe it because that's what you want to believe.
Feel like reading cookie? www.politico.com/story/2013/10/how-much-of-the-gop-spin-about-angry-vets-is-true-98362.html?ml=po_r
Cowboy, they did not try protesting in a place shut down my congress, that is the difference.
It will only be done if Obama has everything he wants in it.
Ha ha. RJ has been listening to talk radio. You naughty boy!!!
I hope so, we need comprehensive immigration reform. Only once we change our policies to encourage legal immigration will illegal immigration cease.
We already have more legal immigration than the rest of the world combined.
That's because we are the greatest country in the world. A city on the hill for immigrants everywhere
I hope you're right.
@Okie: Not quite. According to the CIA we get 1.15M net migrants per year. The rest of the world's countries that have positive migration rates get 2.88M net migrants per year.
The EU alone gets a million a year (almost as many as the US).
No! They need to continue to work on a long term deal.
Why not pull one of the 100 they already have worked out?
Sure! Please, anything address our spending problem.
There are a lot of plans/ideas already on paper. Bust those out and start there.
I don't want another short term deal in January. They should get to work immediately.
