Should the tea party separate from the Republican Party because the party leadership and majority of members do not have the same principles or strategy as the tea party, or should the tea party try to take over the leadership and change the brand?

Dems faced a similar problem with the Green Party. Cost them a few elections but then stabilized. From what I'm reading the tea party faction is closer to 25%of republicans and not all of them would probably leave the rep. party

I'm not a Tea Partier but I voted take over because it's closer to my answer which is to have them assimilate into the mainstream GOP.

Stay. I value all ideological groups in the GOP. We need to become more inclusive and create a bigger party tent.

A new party would basically split the GOP in half, right? Wouldn't that make it difficult for both parties to do much of anything if their base is half of what it used to be?

Exactly. The democrats dream of this to split the vote and leave them with the majority. It makes no sense for the rest of us.

Sooner or later the GOP is going to have to do something because a 21% tea party approval rating isn't going to win then any presidential elections .
