As author of the Government Corruption Reform Act that has worked so well for our Congress I urge you all to pass this bill as a continuation of that goal of eliminating corruption.

Congressman Veritas, Congressman Mattwall1 has introduced 2 Amendments to this bill. You have one hour to reply "I object" to prevent them from being introduced, or you can reply "No objection" to send the Amendments to the floor to be voted upon.

Mr speaker, that hour is long past

My apologies. I lost track of time.

This bill is not reform or corruption prevention. It is nothing but a disguised effort to intimidate people into not contributing to a party for fear their names will be made public and in turn they are ostracized for not being PC.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:51 pm

You realize this applies to everyone, not just one party.

SugarShaq
10/15/13 3:57 pm

Of course I do. Again, do you really think your neighbors and co workers ought to know if you donate to a certain party??? If you are applying for a job should your future boss have access to this info?

SugarShaq
10/15/13 3:57 pm

I can see over a certain large amount but "any and all." This is ridiculous.

Mattwall1

Would you like an amendment that would require the PAC to say we donated x and the money when to a, b, and c, but would only require an individual to be named when it's over a certain amount of money?

SugarShaq
10/15/13 4:27 pm

Sorry, but my questions.... Do you really want your conservative boss to be able to look up and see that you donated 500 to a liberal PAC??

Mattwall1
10/15/13 4:29 pm

Considering we have anti discrimination laws in place, including for political views....

SugarShaq
10/15/13 5:42 pm

Yeah, those anti discrimination laws stopped the IRS....

Mattwall1
10/15/13 5:45 pm

Did I say I'm not all for reform? I'm absolutely in favor of reform and making sure those laws get enforced. But we shouldn't allow our elections to be bought either

SugarShaq

You don't have to reveal personal information on everyone in the country who makes a PAC donation to ensure elections are not bought. That is absurd. This is an incredible invasion of privacy.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 7:22 pm

My amendment would curve that. If job doe donates $5 he isn't revealed. If John worthington donates $5000 depending where the bar is set, he might, like with many non profits anyway

I don't support any of this. I can see the left want it, because the unions are not excluded and they can get all their members to work for the democrats.

Unions are, at least I consider them an impersonal entity

By my reading unions are also clearly excluded.

I don't support any of this, either. Unions and corporations should be able to contribute!

Campaign Finance Reform & Corruption Prevention Act of 2013:
1. All political action committees are required to make any all contributions by any persons public information.

2. All campaign and political contributions (any entity that spends on candidates) are limited to $1,000 and must be made public info.
3. Candidate's campaigns (PACs excluded) may not solicit donations earlier than 1 year before the election date.

How about companies and unions?

RepMorris Pennsylvania
10/15/13 3:25 pm

4. Corporations and other impersonal entities may not contribute to political campaign organizations, only people.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:28 pm

May I suggest an amendment!

SugarShaq
10/15/13 3:31 pm

I consider this an invasion of privacy.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:32 pm

Which part(s)?

MrAngerer
10/15/13 3:35 pm

I like everything but 2. There shouldn't be a limit for anyone to donate.

"political action committees are required to make any all contributions by any persons PUBLIC information."

This is not an invasion of privacy. This is to ensure our democratic process is not high jacked. These are common sense reforms that people on both sides of the aisle should agree with.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:36 pm

Mr Angerer. Would you support a hard limit in the TOTAL amount a candidate can get?

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:37 pm

Do you consider pac's to have the same right as people?

RepMorris Pennsylvania
10/15/13 3:38 pm

By go for it I mean feel free to introduce your Amendment here.

MrAngerer
10/15/13 3:38 pm

No. There should be no limit on the amount contribution given or received.

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:38 pm

Well I have 2
The first is based off the fact candidates used to release their financial records, so amendment 1: candidates who receive any federal funding (yes that is done) must release their financial records going back at least 6 fiscal years.

SugarShaq
10/15/13 3:39 pm

It is an invasion of privacy and nothing but an excuse for donor intimidation. Do you really believe you ought to know who your neighbors and coworkers donate to?

Mattwall1
10/15/13 3:40 pm

2: a hard limit in the amount any presidential candidate an receive from outside forces (ie not his own personal finances, just his or her not their spouse or other family members) shall be set by the congress

RepMorris Pennsylvania

Congressman Veritas, do you have any objection to Mattwall1's Amendments to your bill?

MrAngerer
10/15/13 3:48 pm

On second thought, forget what I said. I say yes, to matts amendment. But no to it if not.
