Pick one. A) 1 million dollars handed to you tax-free. B) 2 million dollars handed to you taxed 50%.

You'd probably get in less trouble if it was seen as taxable

I'd have to launder the 1million in order to use it. One half of 2 million it is!!!

Do you mind if I share this too?
If you haven't upgraded it will disappear after 100 votes, which it will hit fast, so just asking before I force it to close

It's a really good question though!

The government doesn't need another $1 million to send to another country.

I'm one of the few who takes a little pride in paying taxes. I view it as doing a duty to my country. I don't always agree with how it's spent but I still want to be a productive member of society and pull my own weight plus contribute my fair share.

Assuming that 50% rate is only applied as the top marginal rate, I would be given a little more if handed 2 million.

I apologize I should've made it more clearer. My questions means this: you end up with a million dollars either way. One is no tax. Other is 2 million originally but gov takes half.

^__^ Ah, well in that case I have no distinct preference. However, I would probably feel better with the 2 million, knowing I am not technically accepting money under the table.

Most likely anything I've said is shared.

Most likely this is the first time anything I've said has been shared******

I receive the same amount of money, but the latter contributes to something else also. As long as I end up with the $1,000,000, I'll go with that.

Actually, you might get a little bit more with the 2 million, assuming that the 50% only applies as the top marginal rate.

True. I'm sure they'd find a way to get as much as possible. My stipulation is that I get more than or the same amount as in the first scenario.
