Excluding extreme circumstances (such as being bed-ridden), can any American become part of the wealthiest 1% in their lifetime?

Nope, only certain poor will ever be given the doubt enough to have a chance to advance. All the trends are pointed in the wrong direction, and things are so bad already. America is on the path to possessing a permanent and impenetrable rich class

Is an asteroid coming to blow up the world too?

Unfortunately NASA is closed, so we would not know.

Wrong. NASA essential services are still up and running. Tracking incoming asteroids is most likely denned essential.

Actually, you might have a point, but when I looked it up myself, it seemed to come up with conflicting articles, so it seems like the data is inconclusive.

The one percent isn't the threshold that it used to be.

The über- rich is almost certainly unattainable by all but a lottery pick (and yes, I consider the Zuckerberg's of the world to be the equivalent of a lottery pick, statistically).

So you're saying earning an income of roughy $340,000 per year or more, is unattainable?

Redsox, it is important to distinguish between income and total wealth. In addition, inequality for both has been skyrocketing, especially in the past 20 years.

We have the lowest social mobility of all countries at our level. People who think they can become part of the 1%, or that anyone can, are delusional.

Tell that to every hard working successful business owner who had an idea and ran with it, taking a risk, and coming out with a successful business which made them a lot of wealth.

Good for him, but I'd be willing to bet all I have that he didnt make it to the 1%

It's always possible but not likely

Potentially, but it's not probable.

Of course it's not probably due to statistics. Only 1% of Americans will ever become part of the 1%, so that means 99% will not. But you did acknowledge that it is 'possible'

Yes, I am well aware of the statistical improbability. I tend to believe that it's not an impossibility, though.

Yes, and there is a very well known user here that did it. He came here from another country at age 15 and 10.00 in his pocket. He has an amazing and inspirational story but hasn't spoken of it since his first day here.
