Is the modern day image of Jesus as the long haired Caucasian accurate?

The Bible describes Him as not 'comely' or attractive. He apparently just looked like an average, everyday Semetic guy. Probably not very Caucasian looking.

Of course not! And sorry, he wasn't black either.

He's a Jew, he would have been Middle Eastern Looking!!

That's just his portrayal in western society. If you look at portraits of Jesus from Africa he looks black, and he looks Asian in Asia. People naturally want to relate to him, and that easier to do apparently if he's the same race as you.

But what did he likely look like? Probably what stefanie said

Well since he never exist I would think not.

That is historically inaccurate.

Whether or not he existed isn't debatable, he's an historical figure. Whether or not he's a divine being is totally questionable depending on your faith.

Not even close. Jesus is from the Middle East. He was likely darker with olive or brown skin and dark hair and eyes.

Doesn't the bible say something about Mary being really fair? And that means white right?

Women were called the fair sex. Fair here means beautiful.

Ok nvm. I found the scripture but it is in the Book of Mormon so you probably don't believe it, but I know that he was light skinned.

If it's also somewhere in the Bible, if I see where, I have the Greek and Latin translations and could probably decide it. The book Mormon is in English and here it stays ambiguous.

Never saw that, thanks for sharing. I don't know how to do links on my phone but I think I recently saw a mock-up of Oetzi the Iceman recently!

I hate that picture. Not for his physical attributes, Im sure they're somewhat more accurate. But the stupid expression they put on his face is really irritating to me.

No, he was probably a brown guy, but history got whitewashed like it always does.

Jesus, my landscaper, is rather offended. He is clearly not a long haired Caucasian.

I don't mean to offend him. I'm sure he is a very handsome man.

His wife Mary Magdalene thinks so, too.

He doesn't know. So many people try to figure that out for him, but none of them can agree.

I grew up with the Harry Anderson Jesus images. I was surprised that he and Moses looked middle eastern.

Haha! Any idea when/why they changed it?

I don't think western images of Jesus are established canon of the church. Artists just painted what most people around them looked like. There are actually historical images of a black, asian, and arabic Jesus. We are just used to seeing the white..

I believe the image we see today as Jesus began in Italy.
