Here's one for all the statisticians out there: do you know the difference between 'mean' and 'median'? I'm wondering what the mean and median number of followers are amongst SOH users. Tony, can you give us an idea?

Anybody who got to pre-algebra would know this ...

A math teacher explained it this way. Think of mean as being the average (add everything up and then divide it by the amount of numbers you had) and the median as being the middle (say you had five numbers from low to high, it's the middle one).

Example: 3, 7, 8, 20, 40, that's five characters.

Mean = (3+7+8+20+40)/5 = 15.6
Median = 8

Or in the case where the middle is two numbers, you add them up and divide by two.

Come on… Despite my excellent example, nobody caught the flaw in wording?

Mean: the quotient of the sum of several quantities and their number.
Median: the middle term in a series arranged by magnitude, or the average of the two middle terms if there is not just one.

I'd estimate that the average number of followers is around 25.
As for the median, I'd estimate it's somewhere in the five-hundreds.
