I spent my entire childhood with the same exact phones every year for 18 years. We survived. They were made well.

I break my phone all too often.... (the screen) at least then I'd be able to replace this one by now

Hardware: I could use sell the extra phones for an off hand business.

A new phone is >$600. I currently only pay $85 a month for unlimited everything. A new phone every 6 months would be more valuable to me.

I can pay for the service. I hate paying the big chunk every 2 years.

I'm so broke, I get my sisters phones when they buy new ones...

I can use the cell/data plan once I get my iWatch, or whatever the next gadget is after the smartphone. :)

To the 91% that picked service you can get close to that if republic wireless is in your area. I think they are newer but you only pay 19/month for unlimited everything. You get an android smart phone as well. You pay 100 for the phone.

I spend $93 a month on 450 minutes and my old grandfathered in unlimited data plan. In less than 6 month, I can save enough to purchase a smart phone out right.

Hardware is a minimal cost compared to service.

Pretty sure we all spend more money on service.

4 phones and 2 iPads in my house. I wouldn't mine saving that 240 bucks a month!

I'd choose service since I only buy a new phone every few years. I could use the extra $1200 a year back from the service!

Soon enough we will be beyond smart phones so won't want to have to stick with those forever once the super duper ally uper smart phone is invented

What some companies are charging for rates, texting, data, etc is ridiculous, irresponsible and greedy. A fair pricing must be in place if cell service is to remain a viable resource.

I already have the unlimited data (I'm grandfathered into this plan) and would not change it for anything. I can buy new phones myself.

I'd rather have the hardware. Service on T Mobile is very cheap and I'd like to have a new device to play around with every 6 months!

Service cost is much more expensive than a new phone. I pay $1,100 a year for service.

I'll take the free service and upgrade every 2 years like I currently do. Money in the bank!

I'd take the cell service, but not just because the charge per year is greater. Nobody needs a new cell phone every six months; that's a waste of resources.

Phones are cheap. Service is the opposite of cheap, and then multiplied by some crazy number. Not to mention, I don't need a new phone every six months, but I do "need" service every day.

Will pay for itself in no time. Buying a phone every six months would still cost less especially if it's a family plan.

The service for a year costs more than the phone. Plus, I can go for two years if necessary and save up for the latest and greatest phone.

with free phones for life you can get unlimited everything for 40 prepaid. You can sell your free 1000 dollar phone every 6 months and buy a cheap Nexus too.

The ridiculous cost for a monthly data plan is the reason I don't have a smart phone. Give me that for free and I'll gladly buy my own device!

I buy a phone once a year for about $300 but it costs $300 a month! Definitely the free data and service.
