Which issue facing our country is most important to you?
The lack of faith in Christ which has degraded religious morals have caused many of these things to occur. This is the the largest concern!
Our educational system is failing our children. They are loosing the ability to be free thinking, persistent, and independent.
The way we treat other animals.
Restriction of personal freedoms
Lack of leadership at the top is the biggest current issue.
fix education and over time the rest self corrects ........
Without protecting the environment you can't have any of the others. Food for thought.
Inequality! "We can have inequality or democracy but we cannot have both"
The last 3 go hand in hand. Get rid of moochers, fix the economy, take care of debt.
If we get the economy on track, the debt will take care of itself.
You have it backward. The economy will thrive when we get control of the debt. The out of control debt is killing the value of the dollar.
Something else but let's not get into that.
Something else: that all aspects are completely screwed beyond fixing.
The number of votes for environment are totally depressing.
Yes. Far too high.
We need to develop r&d...
Something else: the polarization of our government is my biggest concern because it makes fixing any of the other issues virtually impossible.
I feel the economy directly or indirectly affects all of the other choices.
Health care because I'm on chemo. And it's the newest item on the block to explode like Medicare and Social Security into a fiscal time bomb.
This surprisingly broke down to about how scientific polling ranks these things....interesting
1) education 2) economy 3) campaign finance reform / political systems reform (term limits on congressman) 4) debt 5) TIE immigration & environment
Education! Our kids are falling behind and according to a recent study US adults are scoring lower on testing as well. Education is the biggest foundation to a society that can compete globally & were falling behind,
Economy. Without a thriving economy, you won't have debt, a better education, health care. And mental health. our mental health system SUCKS. too many people out there need help and don't get the mental care they need. plus this country is pathet
pathetic when it comes to treating their elderly, children and disabled. Having been a caretaker for my mother when she had ALS, I had to deal with all sorts of bullshit from doctors, buildings that aren't equipped for handicapped people that suppos
supposidely are, and those "handicapped" toilets? HA! what a laugh. don't get me started on those doors. and the parking spots. OR those carts. fat people CAN be rude. and I was fatter than half those people were. and I walked farther than them
My mother had ALS and couldn't walk 5 ft and these fat fks couldn't spare a cart, and I'm as fat as they are, I swear to Christ...some people...
sorry didn't mean to go on a tangient
Entitlement reform isn't an option? Trillions in unfounded liabilities. You eventually can't address any of these problems without a budget to do so & the big 3 programs will eat up all gov money before many of us retire.
Gay rights, reproductive rights, and overall gender equality.
Guns. If we lose our guns, we lose everything.
Environment. Without a healthy environment to live in, all other issues become irrelevant.
I voted economy bc welfare would fall under that. We would save a lot more with a tighter welfare system. WAY too many abusers - the situation that happened @ walmart in Louisiana is proof. I am appalled by the lack of character of our society.
Economy, but others close behind.
"Economy" encompasses the remainder.
My order: 1) economy 2) education 3) Environment 4) Debt 5) Health Care 6) Guns 7) immigration
The thing is 2005 was the hottest year on record (2009 was 2nd). The last decade 00-09 was the hottest decade on record.
Yeah, but we can actually change the economy and education.
The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said that world temperatures have barely risen in past 15 years
Temperature rises have dropped from 0.12°C per decade since 1951 to just 0.05°C per decade since 1998.
Yes, but 1. If you look at the overall picture hiccups in the graph like we are experiencing now are normal 2. Scientists have found the heat, due to wacky weather has been forced into the pacific ocean and 3. A few years aren't enough to give a good
Picture of what's going on, a graph of the last 100 years is ( like we have).
So the environment is number one importance, but with barely any facts to back up any change.
Barely any facts?! What happens to the greenhouse gases that we put in our atmosphere.?
You said a few years isn't enough time. Sense 1951 really?
Yes the overall increase in temperature was stopped mid-century by polluting particles caused by the industrial revolution. The increase in temperature is clear.
If you look at the overall graph.
Global, why is this so hard to accept? You should be HAPPY your pet cause was all a hoax and the world isn't coming to an end.
You should be CAUTIOUS because billions of peoples lives could be headed for the worse.
"Billions of peoples lives could be headed for the worse."
Really? You sound like some fire and brimstone preacher of old. Why is global warming a religion to you?
Doesn't anyone care about the largest problem effecting the world since the extinction of the dinosaurs. The Colorado river, which feeds 85% of the Californian population is expected to loose 50-70% of its flow over the next century. Forest fires wil
L become a problem in the Southwest, but without water, we can't fight them. In the midwest the Dust Bowl of the 30s could become permanent. In states bordering the Atlantic, flooding and severe weather could make the coastline uninhabitable.
Not to mention the disasters that await our ecosystems and food chain. This is hardly an unimportant issue for our country.
Haven't you heard? We stopped warming 15 years ago and we're heading into a period of cooling. It was all a hoax.
Nope. All a hoax. Great news, huh? The world isn't coming to an end!
All a hoax, huh. What are you saying is happening to all those greenhouse gases then?
There are eight completely different never ending arguments on here. Little hint, if you've made up your mind about guns, abortion, or Obamacare, you've made up your mind!
Without education, no serious strides can be made to resolve any of the other challenges we face.
Illegals cost USA. MILLIONS. OF $$$
How did your family come to live here?
I feel like I still have plenty of WTF, personally, despite the high number of immigrants in my local area.
Do they cost us jobs or are they all on welfare? Which is it! Is it both? Do they add to the economy? Yes! Do they pay taxes? Yes! Read some history tea boy.
The keyword here is ILLEGAL. My family came here and applied for citizenship LEGALLY.
Education, smarts is the future. We have to be smart to stay competitive. Better education also lowers crime rate and gives you better job opportunities.
The biggest criminals in our society have college degrees.
So let's all burn the colleges! Damn educated people, die!
Most criminals are black and most are male. Thus, men are evil and so are black people. Black men are especially evil. Think> I would tell you to think for yourself! but I already know you lack critical thinking skills.
Whether we know it or not, our debt impacts everything else on the list, to include having a profound negative effect on our daily personal lives. How? Stealth inflation caused by quantitative easing, which, of course, is fueled by borrowing.
Guess what are NOT included in the government's measurement of inflation, the Consumer Price Index? Food and fuel, which are only the average person's greatest variable expenses.
Really Alaska?!?! Doesn't your state pay its residents an annual/monthly stipend after 1yr (maybe less) of proven residency??? RECEIVING money is better than giving money -EVERYWHERE around the world!
Do correct me if I'm wrong, but my brother used to live there.
It's called the Permanent Fund Dividend and it's unique to AK (and quite bizarre from a political point of view). This year's PFD was $900 or so.
Don't get me started on gov't spending in AK, especially federal - it's the land of RINO's and conservative Dem's, both of whom are adept at bringing home the pork.
BTW - PFD is in no way borrowing, at state or federal level, rather income from a fund that was created with oil revenue.
As an under 21 year old, I have to say debt. Because I will have to pay back the debt (current and future). So sad...
Don't forget obamacare. You will have to buy healthcare and pay higher premiums to offset the costs of the baby boomers.
Debt... which encompasses almost every other thing on list. Fed too big, doing things has no Constitutional authority to do, spending $ we don't have for things we don't need, sticking their honkin' nose into our lives in ways that mitigate liberty
Patience* not patients.
Typo from below. Now I'm having placement issues...
A lack of free ice cream.
You do away with obamacare, healthcare in the private sector will be better, the debt will not increase, & economy will pick up!
Those statements aren't factual.
Not factual and not probable (Obamacare going away)
That's like saying.. Discontinue NFL, MLB, and NBA and our debt will be erased.
That's not probable
If they take away our "right to bear arms" they'll have free reign to take the rest of our unalienable rights away.
Even if you don't own guns you must be able to see the VALUE of the FREEDOM to own them.
It's not necessarily OUR "right to bear arm" rather a well regulated militia's "right to bear arms". The problem stems from a general disagreement as to what constitutes a "well regulated militia".
Not if you do a little light reading: "I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few politicians."
- George Mason (father of the Bill of Rights and The Virginia Declaration of Rights)
Yes, that is one person. Well done, now I come back with someone who said otherwise, and was considered a founding father, then you counter again, then it devolves and gets highjacked by other commenters. I don't have it in me right meow.
AK every male under the age if 45 is a member of the unorganized militia of the United States. It's right there in the US code. Why don't you look it up yourself and refrain from making specious arguments here.
Case in point^
Ok, can you give me just one??
Every male is automatically signed up for the draft when they get a drivers license....is that not a militia?
I'm sorry to inject facts into your discussion AK.
The abortion debate puts all other issues to shame.
I'm trying to understand why that issue above all else, people find most important?
Because the people who believe abortion is in fact, murder, will believe the human life trumps all else.
Huh. I guess money is more important than the education of the next generations.
If debt is not handled nothing else will matter
I chose education. If our children aren't smart enough to make a good budget, or write a convincing essay/speech, then they'll be failing in the same way as our current politicians. Only, they're our future, apparently.
Of all the problems we face as a country, you really feel that is the most important?
I believe with every fiber of my being that the senseless, selfish slaughter of four thousand innocent preborn boys and girls each and every day for the last forty years stirs the righteous anger of God against our nation like nothing else could.
If you will read the previous screen out loud ten times slowly and carefully, you may begin to understand how I feel about this. Try it sincerely, not mockingly.
So this is all punishment by god? The debt crisis, the ACA, the corruption and scandals, Snowden, Detroit, let's even say 9/11, was all caused by god because this country allows abortion?
I'm not mocking anyone. Just trying to understand.
Goat, no way, everyone knows "god hates America" because we let fāgs live. Haven't you seen the news? ;)
Tlaney, I agree that abortions are not good things, and that every absortion represents an injustice for the mother, father, and unborn child. But luckily, the number of abortions has been going down already, as young people are being far more
Responsible than their parents have been. But in order to be truly pro-life one must be committed with saving as many lives as possible, rather than winning the symbolic "make abortion illegal" fight. That won't help us save more lives. The best
Way to save lives will be to continue to promote policies that lower the unwanted pregnancy rate, as it has been already. That means maintaining easy access to contraceptives and education.
Goat, you're taking all those other negative symptoms of America's political, social, and moral decline and assuming that I thing they're punishments visited on us by God for the sin of abortion. God didn't cause those things, we did, except
Abortion is a symptom of the major problem(s). After the Holocaust ended, senseless murder and tyranny in general didn't cease world-wide. The problem is within the minds of the people. The attitude being forced into women at a young age that . . .
. . . fertility is a disease - something that makes their life less valuable if it's ever to be used. And the idea that force and violence is the answer to all our minor inconveniences. The problem is human lunacy.
for 9/11, which was caused by Jihadist Muslim Terrorists. They are all problems we face, but I don't blame God or abortion. When God reaches the limit of His patience with abortion and our other sins, you'll know it.
cyanospool, it's a real pleasure to meet you. I just followed you and I'd be honored if you'd follow back. I want to stay close to your opinions, because I'm sure I'll enjoy reading them. :-)
Now I'm lost, so we aren't being punished yet? But we will when your gods patients runs out? So does he care about other countries that do abortions? What about the millions killed by needless wars, does that stir his anger? (Serious questions)
Doc, your points are all very good. I'm all in favor of continually shrinking the unwanted pregnancy rate. But if abortion were made unavailable overnight, thousands of babies would be carried to term and put into the arms of loving adoptive parents
If it is that easy to find loving, adopting parents why do we still have a severely overcrowded and underfunded foster system?
(For the record I'm not advocating abortion, I'm really am looking for understanding of your stance)
Goat, I know you're serious, and I respect your sincere attitude. I know we've tangled in the past, and I'm sorry for that.
The things you've mentioned are why Christians believe we're living in the "last days" before the end of this present world
Tlaney I am sure that may be true, but unfortunately, thousands of more women, would be forced into having back ally abortions, endangering both their lives and failing to save the life of the child.
Wait a minute! Now we are close to the end days? I'm sorry and no disrespect is meant at all, but this is why we need better education in this country. With better education comes less unwanted pregnancies.
order and the return of Christ. Before that occurs, the Bible talks about wars and conflicts increasing, an increase in earthquakes and natural disasters, and an increase in the selfishness and ungodliness and violence and immorality all around us.
You have just described every period of human history. I am sure every generation has believed that "the end is near" at one point or another. You are a fellow Catholic, correct?
We see this stuff every day on the news, and there's much more of it than there was forty years ago when I got married. And I believe that, just as the Bible tells about the wickedness of mankind that led to Noah's flood, civilization is unraveling
So 40 yrs ago you had the same access to information that you do today? Or has information about the world become more readily available?
The world is always changing, but I would argue that this is a relatively calmer, and more moral period than in the past. Drugs, sex, and alcohol among youth are all down, and we no longer are in a cold war, things seems pretty good.
to a boiling point (sorry for the mixed metaphor) where God will intervene. The Noah story is in Genesis chapter 6, and Jesus' frankest discussion of the Last Days is in Matthew chapter 24. Check those chapters out for yourself, and see what I mean.
Goat, the sad fact about adoption is that although there's an adoptive coulle for every aborted baby, the majority of American prospective adoptive parents are looking for healthy perfect white infants. There are less parents willing to accept sick,
Special needs, non-white infants or older children or especially teens with behavior problems. And who could go through a dozen or more years in the foster system without some sour attitudes here and there?
Doc - not Catholic. Evangelical Christian, raised "high" Lutheran. But I'm familiar with Catholic doctrine.
Oh, I thought I saw you on an Catholic only poll. That is ok though.
Goat, some shameless self promotion on my part, but would you mind following me? I promise I post quality polls and I am trying to get a full map.
Goat - now I'm confused. What does my mention of the end times have to do with contraceptive education?
