The word "racist" is often misused by SOH users, commentators, and gov leaders. It's misapplied to persons who support a balanced budget, are against gay marriage, want smaller government, or oppose Obama in any way. Is the word losing its meaning?

It's a classic progressive tactic. Take a word that has lots of emotional sentiment attached to it, disregard it's applicability to the situation at hand, and then use it as a verbal club to bludgeon your opponent with when you can't win the debate.

The people who hate Obama are vehement in their hatred. I would say it's racist, but I have also seen equally outrageous attitudes towards Hilary Clinton, so perhaps this attitude is directed towards any group that dares to over step their station.

I don't know if I can put this in the right words, but I'll try. The word 'racist' has always been a horrible word with an horrific connotation. I think that if ANYTHING, the word has grown a stronger meaning with (sadly) a more liberal application.

Certain conservatives have created the image that they are all racist, which is not true. They're the ones calling him a monkey among other terms. People seem to remember those comments more than the ones disagreeing with his political position.

There is a few that have done so.

Steven King, a congressman from Iowa I believe, said all Hispanics are 150 pounds with cantaloupe calves and are smuggling 70 pounds of marijuana over here... Just as a recent example. And he used that as an anti immigration argument.

kscott516 EB rules
10/14/13 12:16 pm

King's statement wasn't racist. Many of the Hispanics coming across the border are drug mules. The calf thing is not even derogatory. I wish I had calves like cantaloupes! Those are facts, not racist comments.

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
10/14/13 12:18 pm

That's not even close to a fact and it's insulting you'd think so. You clearly know nothing of the Hispanic community.

kscott516 EB rules
10/14/13 12:23 pm

Which part isn't fact? And I think you're beginning to fall into the party that uses "racist" to "win" an argument.

To clarify, you believe there are no Hispanic drug mules crossing the border?

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
10/14/13 12:32 pm

I'll tell you where I stand firstly. Secondly, you're wrong. Again. My only options aren't "all, most, or none". The answer is few. Show me a statistic that says otherwise. I've come across government websites on the subject and they don't insinuate

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
10/14/13 12:32 pm

that it's most, or even half. They don't cite specific statistics, but show me something that would counter it being "few".

Posco Not here for socializing
10/14/13 12:34 pm

@Jive I remember when he said that. It's incredibly stupid to believe that that is a serious problem. Immigration? Maybe. Drugs? Sure. But saying Mexicans are all drug mules that carry 70 lbs over hundreds of miles is unbelievable.

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
10/14/13 12:37 pm

And the most disgusting thing is it was in reaction to the DREAM act, which is for immigrant valedictorians or otherwise academically proficient. I don't know the specifics of the bill, but what a bigoted response from King.

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
10/14/13 12:49 pm

There has to be well over 50-100. But to say that has justified the label "many" out of a group of several millions is misleading at best. My definition of many is a significant group without being the majority. 33-49% maybe. Depends on context.

JiveYoungKing The Banter Boy
