The word "racist" is often misused by SOH users, commentators, and gov leaders. It's misapplied to persons who support a balanced budget, are against gay marriage, want smaller government, or oppose Obama in any way. Is the word losing its meaning?

It's a classic progressive tactic. Take a word that has lots of emotional sentiment attached to it, disregard it's applicability to the situation at hand, and then use it as a verbal club to bludgeon your opponent with when you can't win the debate.

The people who hate Obama are vehement in their hatred. I would say it's racist, but I have also seen equally outrageous attitudes towards Hilary Clinton, so perhaps this attitude is directed towards any group that dares to over step their station.

I don't know if I can put this in the right words, but I'll try. The word 'racist' has always been a horrible word with an horrific connotation. I think that if ANYTHING, the word has grown a stronger meaning with (sadly) a more liberal application.

Certain conservatives have created the image that they are all racist, which is not true. They're the ones calling him a monkey among other terms. People seem to remember those comments more than the ones disagreeing with his political position.

Steven King, a congressman from Iowa I believe, said all Hispanics are 150 pounds with cantaloupe calves and are smuggling 70 pounds of marijuana over here... Just as a recent example. And he used that as an anti immigration argument.

@Jive I remember when he said that. It's incredibly stupid to believe that that is a serious problem. Immigration? Maybe. Drugs? Sure. But saying Mexicans are all drug mules that carry 70 lbs over hundreds of miles is unbelievable.

There has to be well over 50-100. But to say that has justified the label "many" out of a group of several millions is misleading at best. My definition of many is a significant group without being the majority. 33-49% maybe. Depends on context.
