It's 1944 and the Soviets are retaking territory lost to your Panzergruppe in Operation Barbarossa. A sizable "pocket" of infantry and Panzers are in danger of being surrounded and captured! Should they withdraw, or dig in and await reinforcement?
In reality this occurred late March, over 160 miles of muddy Russian terrain with heavy snowfall impeding the German military's capability to resupply Hans Valentin-Hube's 1st Panzer Army.
Although risky it ensured they were able to escape Zhukov's 1st Ukrainian Front, and link up with the rest of the German military. Zhukov was attempting to recreate the success of Stalingrad by encircling Germans in the harsh weather.
