Redo: Have you ever driven on a bridge-tunnel? Not a regular tunnel, but a bridge-tunnel.

No, a bridge-tunnel. It's a bridge, then a tunnel. There are around 4-5 in the US.

We only have them so the navy can get out to the ocean uninterrupted. I don't think they're the best idea financially for most areas.

The Oakland Bay Bridge, between San Francisco and Oakland. It consists of two spans that connect with a tunnel through Yerba Buena Island, which is close to the San Francisco side. I haven't *driven* it since I don't drive, but I've been a passenger
