When you were a kid, were your Halloween costumes homemade or store bought?
We couldn't afford "Store Bought" costumes, when I was a kid.
The year: 1978. 8-year-old Tony dons a sheet-with-holes ghost costume for the first lap around the neighborhood before transforming into a sloppy gauze-wrapped mummy for the second trip to the unsuspecting candy givers. Trick-AND-treat, I say!
Does anyone remember the ones that were simply like plastic smocks and they had a plastic mask that were hard to breath out of?
Some of both, some years were a mix in themselves.
In the future, I foresee very little store bought anything but candy. I really dislike all the plastic.
When I was a kid, I don't think there were very many store-bought costumes. People just... dressed up as something. It took a little imagination & creativity, unless you just went as a ghost. Personally I think it was more fun that way,
and I think store-bought costumes are a racket - making it seem like you *need* to buy something that you really don't. I really dislike commercialization of holidays.
My mom made me the best costumes! I wish I were half as good of a seamstress as she is. My favorites were my Scarlett O'hara & Wonder Woman costumes.
Mine too but back then nobody wore store bought
I think i had the same costume for many years.
Most were homemade. My daughter hasn't had a homemade one yet. Mostly because I just don't have the time. My mom was a sahm, I'm a student and I work part time.
We were too poor to have "store bought" costumes.
A mix of both, but often my mom would make them. My favorite was the poodle skirt she made me. :)
