Does it make sense to tip a taxi driver if all they did was pick you up and bring you to a destination, a service for which you are already paying for?
I think if a taxi gives nice service, like someone pointing out things about where we are driving or making nice small talk, it seems logical to give them a good, nice tip as you would any above average service.
By the person paying. I don't think it's likely, but hey. Maybe the cab driver buys you tacos and helps you find a solution to one of life's problems. You never know.
You pay for the food, yes. At McDonald's you don't tip, and you carry your own food, get your own drink, and bus your own table. Tips are for the service provided by the wait staff.
It is more than carrying the plate. They refill the drinks, fetch supplies, in general, they wait on you. For full service, executed well, a tip is in order. Otherwise, no it isn't.
I feel that the inflated price I'm already paying is good enough. I do tip dine in, NEVER for take away, but mostly out of social pressure and I think it's nonsense.
I don't tip for take out. I only tip for dine in if it is full service. You shouldn't tip if you don't want to. It is a courtesy offering for an appreciated service.
Let's try to have a civil conversation here, I'm having a hard time believing you if that's your view of a waiter. Unless you were one of those lazy teens who just shows people to their tables.
Believe what you want. Teresa's Mexican Restaurant in Lakeville MN. I worked 15 hours a week through junior and senior year waiting tables Th-Sa nights.
Just because I don't agree with this odd cultural trend doesn't mean a damn thing. If anything my experience makes me more qualified to speak on the topic.
