Virtual Congress Vote. This bill is brought to the floor by Congressman NathanE (R) of Pennsylvania. It is hereby illegal to use cell phones while operating motor vehicles.
I don't like the idea that you can regulate that heavily what one can do in his or her private property. I get the moral dilemma that it endangers others, but the "texter" will be found liable anyway.
Nay. There are already "failure to perform the duties of a driver" laws in every state, under which cell phone use leading to an accident would be covered. Additional legislation is unnecessary.
There is no reason for this unjust law! Don't tell me what to do! I can use my phone without harming anyone, and I have for like 10 years. Just because someone can't drive while doing it, doesn't mean all of us can't, and this bill doesn't address...
Sorry, I must result to my "personal sin" of talking on the phone while driving, but my decision is based off of more than my personal choice. It is also based off of the logical reasons Zmann presented.
It's not worth wrecking over and making a different emergency over. People wreck all the time while talking on the phone and endanger themselves and the people riding with them
No!
I can not support this. Are we also going to make using the radio illegal? Or what about the biggest one, eating and driving? That is surely distracting
Actually in pa if you are eating and wreck you will be charged with wreck less driving and yes it is dangerous to eat, but the reason I bring up phones over eating is I have been called to about 10x more wrecks because of people on their phones than
I propose an amendment to change "while operating motor vehicles" to "while operating a moving vehicle." This would clear up two things - first, making a cell call on the shoulder of a highway in a parked but running car would thus
not be prohibited, and second, this would cover airplanes, subway trains, school buses, tour buses, and other forms of multi-passenger public conveyances.
This bill hits VERY VERY close to home to me as a firefighter and I take it very personal. I've seen SO many good people hurt or killed because they were on their phones and the accidents wouldn't of happened otherwise. They endanger the people
Around them and the people in the car with them. Ive seen this happen to too many people. If you HAVE to talk, pull over. It's not worth your life or killing someone else and having to live with that for the rest of your life
