Virtual Congress Vote. This bill is brought to the floor by Congressman NathanE (R) of Pennsylvania. It is hereby illegal to use cell phones while operating motor vehicles.
That's stupid. Do you know how much gets done via cell phones on the road?
I don't like the idea that you can regulate that heavily what one can do in his or her private property. I get the moral dilemma that it endangers others, but the "texter" will be found liable anyway.
THE BILL IS PASSED.
This only has 46% approval!!!
I think a new handful of votes just came along recently and changed it.
I will consult with the President to decide what to do with this bill.
Nay. There are already "failure to perform the duties of a driver" laws in every state, under which cell phone use leading to an accident would be covered. Additional legislation is unnecessary.
Yay, it kills people this is common sense legislation
Nay, this legislation must be passed by state governments as it is beyond the authority of the federal government.
I would like to know where are the people claiming for state's rights?
If those same people don't call for it hear, then I don't see how that doesn't prove once in for all it is just partisan.
Good point I'm changing my vote
1) It should be up to the states.
2) It's way too broad.
3) it would be ridiculously hard to enforce.
My thoughts too
There is no reason for this unjust law! Don't tell me what to do! I can use my phone without harming anyone, and I have for like 10 years. Just because someone can't drive while doing it, doesn't mean all of us can't, and this bill doesn't address...
Any other forms of driving distractions. This is a strong NAY! I live by the NAP.
Folks, I know this is only for good reasons. But it is simply not plausible.
Honestly, do you truly realize the full impact of it? Do you realize how many people need to receive calls while driving? Even for job purposes?
Yeah I switched back to no after seeing this
I mean seriously, do I have to spell it out for people? Think
I mean what if it's an emergency, and you can't pull over? What do you do?
Sorry, I must result to my "personal sin" of talking on the phone while driving, but my decision is based off of more than my personal choice. It is also based off of the logical reasons Zmann presented.
It's not worth wrecking over and making a different emergency over. People wreck all the time while talking on the phone and endanger themselves and the people riding with them
Answering phone calls- No!
I can not support this. Are we also going to make using the radio illegal? Or what about the biggest one, eating and driving? That is surely distracting
Wow! Zmann, I actually agree with you.
Actually in pa if you are eating and wreck you will be charged with wreck less driving and yes it is dangerous to eat, but the reason I bring up phones over eating is I have been called to about 10x more wrecks because of people on their phones than
Same principle! This is like the gun issue. There comes a point where you find out that people are the problem not the item.
I propose an amendment to change "while operating motor vehicles" to "while operating a moving vehicle." This would clear up two things - first, making a cell call on the shoulder of a highway in a parked but running car would thus
not be prohibited, and second, this would cover airplanes, subway trains, school buses, tour buses, and other forms of multi-passenger public conveyances.
That makes perfect sense
But are you actually operating the car while it's parked and running or a passenger on an airplane?
Technically, you are facilitating the continued operation of the internal combustion engine and electrical systems by not turning the car off.
NathanE, this amendment has officially been proposed. Is there any objection? (Reply "I object" or "no objection")
No objection, in fact, I support it fully
Tlaeny1, what is your political party for the record?
The Amendment shall be brought to the floor.
I object due to the unconstitutionality of the law because of the first amendment.
Oh! Let me look at the amendment to see if I uphold my objection.
I remove my objection if Laney's amendment passes.
I think Bluetooth calls should be allowed.
Damn someone is making a lot of bills, bit I won't bitch because I haven't seen one I didn't like. Just dont get out of hand with it, ok buddy?
This is already a law in CA.
I'm happy the younger generations propose and support this. I see it almost daily and especially younger drives. Please be careful when you drive.
This bill hits VERY VERY close to home to me as a firefighter and I take it very personal. I've seen SO many good people hurt or killed because they were on their phones and the accidents wouldn't of happened otherwise. They endanger the people
Are you including phone calls? If so, what if they're on Bluetooth?
Around them and the people in the car with them. Ive seen this happen to too many people. If you HAVE to talk, pull over. It's not worth your life or killing someone else and having to live with that for the rest of your life
No phones at all! I'm sick of unwrapping cars from trees because of them. It happens all too much
Ok, I just wanted to check, although I'm worried if its an emergency call.
THEN PULL OVER!!!
True, I'm just pointing out an issue. I still said yay, but I did want to check. There are still some issues, but I'll say yay
Do you have to be elected into the virtual congress?
As long as you follow speaker afly you're a member
In that case, may I suggest a bill?
The Universal Healthcare Act of 2013: repeals Obamacare, replaces it with a single-payer system(like Canada, Norway, etc), and all money spent by citizens on Obamacare will be refunded to them.
The congress repealed Obamacare a while ago. Do you have trepidhickory or afly's Skype?
Obamacare has already been repealed here a few months ago. What exactly would you like to replace it with?
A single-payer system.
Here, word your bill however you like so I can just copy and paste it. I'll try to introduce it as early as tonight.
The Universal Healthcare Act of 2013: A single-payer healthcare system is established in the United States and all money spent by citizens on Obamacare plans will be refunded.
Even for phone calls, not just texting? What if you have Bluetooth?
