What tabbser said. Everything changes over time. There is bound to be many different forms of intelligent life in the universe, and 'god' has nothing to do with. (Because there isn't one)

There has to be. But the vast expanse of space and near infinite distances will probably never allow us to find out.

Evolution of life on planet earth is not unique. It's common all over the universe. There's no god in charge. Given the abundance of the chemicals required to produce humans, it's almost an inevitable function of the environment.

Chances are slim but if we can make a whole society out of dirt , which no one could ever imagine for us to do, there's bound to be some other life somewhere on the lines that impossibility is 0% and drake equation for life is a billionth of a percent.

@kb007...so much space?
Evolutionists will tell you that life on earth was a random accident (non-purposed). Scientist will tell you the odds of duplicating the conditions that made the accident possible are astronomical...but it could happen.
Theologians will tell you there is a purpose.

I cant stress enough... Its so ignorent of humans to think were the only ones in this universe!!! Why is there so much vast space if its just us?!? I dont know if it will be human/animal like... Maby even a plant/ameba like thing! No way earth just happend to have life!

like dogs being intelligent beings but not necessarily humen level. In my view point if they meet basic hunter gatherer and can learn, adapt, and throw in a level of tool usage...check on the intelligence box.

@just saying. yes of course but the characteristics of life are pretty easy to meet according to the physiological def. now when it comes to intelligence there are a number of ways to measure that claim.

Because the universe Is endless, well, that makes everything we have discovered in the universe endless as well, including intelligent life. Heck, because the universe is endless, that means there are more earths! An infinite amount of them actually.

Well, because the beach is endless, this could not only happen again, but again and again and again. There is an infinite number of rocks on the beach(the beach is the universe)because the beach is endless, and there is a rock on the beach that was made there.

Let's put us walking on an endless beach. All the sudden you see a rock. Let's say that rock is a planet with intelligent life, and all the grains of sand are barren planets. That rock got here somehow, and if the placing of this rock happened once, it can happen again because the beach is endless

Fair points, but I believe the question implies that the alien life, would in some way meet our current definitions of "intelligence" and "life".

@bchstusa, I don't disagree with what you state. I think the salient point of the question is "intelligent" life; ie human-like as I read it. Probability and possibility are two different things. Is it possible to have a one-sided coin? Possible but not probable. that was my point.

people aren't realizing that just cuz we breath oxygen drink water and other " human stuff" doesn't mean there aren't other life forms that are very very different from ourselves. I mean even on earth things breath underwater and plants survive off of CO2 so I don't see why our " perfect conditions"

@dakernal: But we have to think exponentially. This is the universe we're talking about. There could be water that is oxygenated by hydrogen given off by its sun, and that, in turn, sparks submerged vegetation; the vegetation then oxygenates the water further and you have a marine life planet.

I answered yes but I don't know. Earth, relatively speaking, was an accident. To be the perfect distance from the sun to allow for sustainable life is nearly impossible. But I don't want to say its never happened before.

I feel comfortable in my assumption that there was, is, or will be. It seems like a safe bet, statistically speaking

Please read the previous posts before commenting. "There's no intelligent life on Earth" has already been said in many ways. Yes, it's funny. Also, read the question carefully. Notice that it doesn't ask you to choose between God and aliens. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Apparently republicans are less inclined to believe in intelligent life...Can't say I blame them considering who their current leaders are...

For those who DO NOT believe in God, we are simply freaks of nature; the result of an accidental occurrence in the universe. Why would we assume that this "mistake" would happen again? The probability of this happening are orders of magnitude LESS than the probability that there is a God.

You have to be so ignorant to believe that we're the only intelligent life form

If the universe is infinite then the possibility for life elsewhere is infinite, but at the same time there is an infinite chance that aliens would visit us. So why haven't they then?

@veritas I may be remembering that incorrectly. I tried searching for it, but can't seem to find it. Don't you think complexity and intelligence are connected?

Final thought for the night: these comments are a microcosm of the world in general. If there is intelligent life out there and they know of us, is it no wonder they remain silent? To any alien reading this, forgive us our ignorance. It come with youth.

@iTech. You sure? I'm not sure I buy that. Grow in complexity? I definitely agree. But intelligence? Not sure I've heard of anything postulizing that.
