MapArt Friday! This one's tough. When did your state officially become a state? Oldest state (Delaware) should be 100% blue. Newest (Hawaii) should be 100% red. Others should "get in line" in between them.

West Virginia wasn't a state until the Civil war

03/31/13 6:14 am

It was a county in Virginia!

04/01/13 12:19 pm

I was actually impressed with West Virginia... They seceded at civil war because they didn't feel their voice was being heard in the legislature over the many many plantation owners in Virginia. Way to go WV! Kentucky, apparently not so much

Oklahoma should be a red state in a sea of blue. 1907 was our year and every state around us had already been a state for a long time. We were Indian territory before that.

What your states percentage should be is
(State Number - 1) x 2.041

Lol @ Delaware and Hawaii. Apparently their education systems aren't working.

03/30/13 3:30 pm

Funnily enough, they are red because they weren't rebels!

03/30/13 8:53 am

Damn it West Virginia! Why are you red?

pinkyusuck The Carribean. I wish.
03/30/13 9:27 am

Because West Virginia came about after the civil war.

03/30/13 10:40 am

They were the 35th state so they should be red. They split off from Virginia.

Delaware and Hawaii: I have to say I am quite disappointed in you two. I really expected more of you. I'd like you both to think about what you've done and come back when you're ready to apologize.

03/30/13 10:37 am

I think ( I mean hope) that it was a joke.

C'mon Texas. Look, I know you have a near fanatical devotion to the color red, but we need just a little more blue to make this work. Can't you just put away your political biases just this once? For science?

The date of each state's admission, with Delaware being the first (all blue) and Hawaii being the last (all red). Arkansas and Michigan were 25th and 26th so they should be purple (by a near 50/50 split of their votes) and the rest a smooth gradient between. Touch the map to see the gradient.

@zodd. Thanks but I'm just not getting it and its the same every Friday.

Zod Above Pugetropolis
03/29/13 6:18 pm

Don't feel bad BabyBoomer, the tricky part is there's nothing to "get". The question and results don't mean anything statistically, it's just a goofy way to let off steam by painting colors in the map with our blue or red votes. You have to click on "results" then touch the US map to see the "art".

03/29/13 1:51 pm

I want to know why Puerto Rico and Guam even bothered voting...

There's always that one person that messes it up though.

Tony SOH Founder
03/29/13 2:08 pm

That would require a lot of people not to vote, which would never happen because people can't see the results until they've voted.

03/30/13 6:30 am

You could do it with multi option polls.
