I’ve recently realized that I write essays much more efficiently while pacing around the room and typing on my phone than I do while sitting down at my laptop. Do you have any strange work quirks?
I like to have my writing surface really low I prefer the table top just below my knees. It kills my back and shoulders and even my hamstrings but, I feel like everything flows better.
Music while I write reports, it’s easier sometimes for me to get things done if I am working on a couple things at once at work— I’ll write part of an IEP while I write a report and score protocols. Other times I have to do everything at once.
Sounds like you might be a kinesthetic learner. They work better when active, and learn while doing things hands-on. You might try pacing when you’re trying to memorize things, as well.
I learned about learning styles when homeschooling 2 of my kids. There are homeschooling books about determining learning styles, if you’re interested. How you go about teaching and learning can make a HUGE difference in outcomes!
Interesting! I’m a learner who needs visuals. If no illustration, then at least I need to see the words. Verbal lessons go in one ear and out the other.
Then you would definitely skew toward the visual and not the verbal learner. I’m the same way. I think a lot of it is because I have an auditory processing disorder.
But there is also the kinesthetic, hands-on learner, that has to DO the project to learn how....like the person that has to cook the recipe instead of just reading about it or listening to instructions.
My daughter was kinesthetic, and I got her older brother to shoot hoops with her as she was learning her multiplication tables. I have some of that in me, as well as visual, as I memorize better if I pace or write it down.
You see, you can also have a combo of styles, and this book covers that as well! It leads you through a series of questions, and then gives the parent a grading score to determine the style or combo of styles.
To this day, my daughter can get a piece of furniture and put it together, using only a visual diagram. I would be TOTALLY lost, as I have to have written instructions to understand it! But she’s hands-on, and has put together several pieces, including an intricate corner desk with multiple parts, by herself!
Oh, that’s right! I had forgotten about that! That’s what homeschoolers can soar with.....teaching to the different learning styles because you don’t have as many kids to teach. For instance, for auditory learners, there are Geography Songs.
And I had one set of curriculum that gave activities for all the different learning styles. So you could be teaching all your kids the same history on their own grade level, and doing different activities, depending on their learning styles. It was AWESOME!
I prefer pacing around and walking while I read texts for school. I had a world literature class this last semester, and some of the readings would have been impossible to get by without having the added entertainment of physical activity.
I also kept my work laptop in the file cabinet from early2016-late 2019 bc I like a clean desk.
I do 95% of my computer work on my cell.
My Boss finally forced me to get a desktop and then yelled at me when I stole a 42” flat screen that wasnt ever used and hooked it up as a monitor to save space on my desk.
