India is a democratic nation whose revolution is still in living memory for some. The entire history of the Chinese people has been subjugation. They couldnt democratize their way out of a paper bag. The only reason China is considered a world power is because theres too damn many of them.
Yes. For the higher castes, their education system is good, and work/study ethic too.
If they eliminate the caste system and some innate misogyny, they can quickly overtake China given how they are more open to and with the world than China. Plus they have English as a common language, one less business hurdle ( 🇨🇳 Mandarin???)
If we work with India as a sideswipe to China, good things will happen if we do it right.
Think of it as the 2020+ version of Nixon/Kissinger opening with China to triangulate against the Soviet Union. Worked great for China; too bad the trade policies hadn’t been reviewed untilTrump got in office and China had been eating our lunch unnecessarily for decades.
Not if they can’t find a place outside for 1.5 billion people to poop on the ground. They won’t use toilets and almost a billion people a day poop outside on the ground there. Freaking disgusting.
With the only two answers being No way or Yes/Maybe, the only reasonable answer is Yes/Maybe since no one can definitively say that it’s impossible to happen.
They will be a major player because globalism is worldwide democracy. As an American I’m skeptical of global democracy because it will lead to a global arms race.
If they’re the smartest, then how come a billion people a day poop outside on the ground? Why do they have to collect cow pop, dry it and sell it to cook their food and warm their huts? While yes they may be nice people, there’s something wrong with their culture.
We hear a lot about the rise of China, but less about the rise of India. IMHO, India may be better poised to dominate the 21st century because I think China will eventually run into some real internal problems due to their authoritarian government. It’s possibly already happening because of Xi’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Hmm - not sure - the Chinese made Xi “ruler for life” or “Chairman for life”, whatever they call it, just a couple years ago.
They are inscrutable! 😊
.
I already consider them a power. Extremely dangerous situation too! India and a Pakistan both have nukes- most probable area of the world, nukes could be used!
I don’t believe that India would become a military power due to their culture, but I can see them trying to blow-away Pakistan just on general principles.
But that doesn’t make India a major military power - it just makes them discriminatory. Remember, just 100 years ago they were still killing/burning wives right along with their deceased husbands on the funeral pyres.
Lots of factions in a India, just can’t see them becoming the next mega-power.
.
I must have read this wrong - twice.
Is this saying that the US has less firepower than Somalia? Less firepower than any other country on Earth?
I guess I don’t get it. Is that is what it is saying, why do we arm countries that already are stronger than us? What am I missing here?
.
But the article said that the ideal number would be zero and unattainable.
Oh well. I accept that we are more armed than any other country by at least threefold - we’ve never seen a weapon we didn’t want in our arsenal for at least a little while.
