After EXTENSIVE viewing of testimony during the impeachment inquiry I have noted an obvious feeling of sour grapes by professional diplomats related to the fact the president was delineating foreign policy instead of them.
The deep state cabal.
They forgot that the president sets foreign policy. No one else.
Agree. It is evident that they are upset that Trump apparently did not take their advice, which is perfectly legal. It’s the president’s foreign policy, not theirs.
Nobody likes getting their toes stepped on, especially by someone hardly qualified to do their own job, let alone yours.
But when they overstep their authority their toes are liable to get stepped on. You would think that diplomats would understand that.
President Trump FTW.
The Foreign Policy direction is Trump's job, not theirs.
I don’t want the Leftist products of elite Marxist Ivy League Schools determining foreign policy. That’s why we’ve been picking up the tab for NATO since WWII, and why they were apoplectic when Trump suggested the Euros start paying their fair share.
He understands what the elites do not. For instance, it’s impossible to appreciate & care for something you don’t pay for. In fact you come to resent those who give it to you. Trump understands human nature. The elites live in dreams.
They are pissed he took away their marbles and replaced them with his. Job security is important.
I voted for and we elected Trump to change our Foreiign Policy direction.
Trump was elected to do the will of the voters, the Diplomats were appointed to carry out Trump's policies or get out of the way.
It is making more sense now to see a President clean house upon being elected.
I wish Trump had.
Yep, this has been obvious from what I’ve seen. Entrenched bureaucrats who don’t like being told how to do their jobs.
Yes - and he is NOT good at it!
I guess that would be in the eye of the beholder.
That is true.
Shy, it appears his results, so far, are better than theirs. Entrenched bureaucrats are just as dangerous to our democracy as entrenched lobbyists who forget who their bosses are.
You are absolutely correct, lj ... his results have certainly been effective - I just don’t agree with the people he has chosen to be the new US allies: Putin, Kim, Duterte, Netanyahu, ad infinitum.
So then if you don’t want long term career seasoned professional experienced foreign service diplomats advising on foreign policy, who do you think should be doing it? Ivanka? Jared? Rudy? Just who do you think you want speaking for and fostering American interests? A professional or the bosses little princess or his son in law or his personal attorney? Seriously, think about it. Who?
Elected officials like the president should be determining foreign policy, not unelected officials. Yes, I would prefer that the president determine foreign policy and use diplomats to carry it out under his direction. What I see is diplomats with their feelings hurt that they aren’t running the show.
What I see is experienced people with the knowledge to advise on ongoing foreign policy who have been chopped off at the knees by a bumbling narcissist driven by greed and power.
Those are exactly the people we DON’T need making foreign policy!
I trust the president and other elected officials to do that.
Ebola, so you want a dictatorship. With one man making all the decisions without any advisers. Well, you're almost there...
Hmmmmm. Let’s say you need brain surgery. You can choose between a board certified head of the neurology Department with 30 years experience or a person who was just elected to the hospital board with no medical experience.
Which one do you choose?
Ebola's answer is........Trump....lol
You had a point but it’s backwards. In your scenario Trump would be the head of the Neurosurgery Department and the diplomats would be his scrub technicians. While the scrub techs may be very proficient in suture techniques, etc. , they lack the ability to see the big picture and the plan outlined by the Chief. They act as the Chief’s subordinates to accomplish the plan per his instructions.
The real danger is when the technicians start to think they are the doctor. That’s when the patient may die. I’ve actually seen this sort of thing happen irl so I’m glad you brought it up. It matters not how many years experience the technicians have, they will never be equal to the doctor.
Hopefully, you can get a better understanding of what is at stake if you think about it carefully.
No one has suggested a dictatorship, that’s just silly 🙃. It’s called chain of command. Of course the president has advisers but when it comes to making the final decision often the buck stops with him.
Yah, no I didn’t have it backwards.Trump is the no nothing that got elected to the hospital board.
Nope. I’m just trying to put things in perspective. But if you insist on your erroneous example you will have to admit that you’re comparing apples to oranges. Your statement makes no sense.
It’s obvious to anyone paying attention.
