I feel if a young child were on their deathbed and asked me if they were going to heaven, I'd lie to them and say yes. I'm pretty sure that would benefit them much more than the truth

Your 5 year old child asks you how babies are made, do you describe sex to them? Or simply wait until they are a bit older? If you don’t explain sex then they were “lied to.” It is very often better to be told the truth, but sometimes a lie is necessary for the emotional state of a person or for someone who is not yet ready for certain information.
