Do you support all teachers making the same pay no matter how good or how bad they are as a teacher?
Absolutely not. For instance, I believe that the socialist teachers should be paid nothing at all, since they are making no positive contribution to our society.
Yes, simply because I haven’t heard a single idea on how else to do teacher pay that is the least bit feasible.
Teachers should not be paid on their students’ performance. You cannot expect that a teacher in a public, inner city school with 30 students will produce the same results as a teacher in a suburban, charter school with 15 students. It’s not realistic.
What about all of the teachers in that public inner city school? Should the good ones get paid the same amount as the bad teachers?
Who's deciding who the good ones and bad ones are?
So, do you not think there should be any standards for teachers?
I’m not saying we should have no standards for teachers, just that standardized tests are not a good measurement of their efficacy as a teacher.
Stoney, do you have an actual plan concerning how teachers should be evaluated and rewarded?
That question was for DJ
Sure, it shouldn’t be any one person deciding. It should be based on many things. Parents, their performance, and the people running the school. And when their is a teacher not cutting it they should be let go.
Define “their performance”.
And the one group of people who should 100% not be directly involved are the parents.
Pay for performance! Better test scores deserve better pay
In theory that sounds good, but teachers are not the only factor in student performance. There are many, many factors.
i think that people that support merit pay for teachers don't understand education..
So, if the best teacher in the world and the worst teacher in the world we’re both teaching at the same school, you believe they should be paid exactly the same?
I think the worst teacher should be fired. It can be done in many states. Administrators just have to care enough to do the work. Exception: Some school boards will not allow it.
