The President of the United States has been fined $2 million for misusing his charity to further his business and political interests...and within 48hrs it’s barely news. We have fallen a long way. Very sad.
The case the court was making was Trump used a fundraiser for veterans charities to further his campaign. This was regarding the time he skipped one of the 2016 debates and did a charity fundraiser instead. In this fundraiser he raised $2 million and donated all of it to the charities that he said he was going to donate it to. The only campaign involvement the event had was he used his campaign staff to run it. So it was actually a monetary loss for his campaign because the event staff was paid with campaign money.
Debunked? Not hardly. The Trumps admit to breaking the law when it comes to the Trump Foundation and you seem to be deliberately narrowing the focus.
"The Trump Foundation, among other misdeeds, improperly spent $250,000 to settle the legal disputes incurred by the Trump family's business dealings.
Trump also used $25,000 in charitable money to make a donation to support the reelection campaign of then-Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi , a Republican who is reportedly going to join his administration soon and at the time was considering whether to launch an investigation of Trump University – which, like the foundation, has been dismantled.
Federal law prohibits the use of charitable money to make political donations.
Although the Trumps had already agreed in December 2018 to dissolve the foundation, and they had previously admitted to committing legal violations, the specifics of the settlement did not get sorted out for nearly another year"
