There are only two reasons to like him.

There is far more reason for an American to not like him than to like him.

Bloomberg is included because his possible candidacy is in the news and could significantly shake things up. I’m guessing the point of this poll was to see how the inclusion of Bloomberg would change things.

anjrued NJ

In all honesty, if you look into his UBI plan it does make some sense, but it’s certainly not libertarian-friendly as it’s practically the purest form of socialism. Taxing automation (which is the true job thief, not immigrants) will both offer relief to those who have lost their job to tech, and could incentivize companies to hire people instead of machines.

JRummy Indepublicrat
11/09/19 8:39 pm

anjrued I believe some libertarians might like the way he implements his version of UBI, where it can offset certain cash-based welfare programs in order to opt-in to receiving the dividend. Plus, it gives people the ability to choose how to allocate those funds how they think it will work for them best, instead of being dictated when, where, and how to spend it.

anjrued NJ
11/09/19 8:42 pm

I truly believe the Freedom Dividend would be an awesome policy. I think it would change a lot of lives and improve the quality of life for most Americans, but I also think it has a snowball’s chance in hell of ever becoming a law since it would be branded by the right as a socialist hellscape.

JRummy Indepublicrat
11/09/19 8:52 pm

anjrued While I am a Republican, I have watched the Democratic debates and something Buttigieg had mentioned at one point that I actually agreed with was, “It's true that if we embrace a far left agenda, they're going to say we're a bunch of crazy socialists. If we embrace a conservative agenda, you know what they're going to do? They're going to say we're a bunch of crazy socialists.” My party at large has utterly lost the meaning of what actually constitutes “socialism,” and because of that I believe our party is utterly losing the fight for longevity and the ability to gain traction with future voters because we just scream “socialism!” at everything we don’t like instead of actually trying to win debates on policy like adults.

anjrued NJ
11/10/19 12:20 am

You’ve kind of made my point for me, unwittingly. There’s an argument to be made that the invention of the car helped foster the Great Depression. There was a sudden shift in the way people spent money. Not only did buggy dealers go bust, so did the peripheral jobs, such as stables and horse shit street cleaners. It wasn’t an optimal situation at the time. Eventually it led to a massive leap in our economy, but it took a while and a lot of hardship to get there. Hopefully the UBI could stifle some of the hardships caused by this century’s inevitable encroaching jobs crisis.

CoffeeNow Powderpuff Leftist
