Is a 20 year old too young to be teaching high school?

I have no issue with that. If someone has the drive and maturity to finish their degree by 20, good for them!

I’d have to give them credit for getting their degree that would be a challenge but could be done...

As I stated below, there are programs at least in Texas where students start college their junior year and have their associates when they graduate HS.

If they are knowledgeable and we'll qualified, sure. But I'd bet there are not very many of those people around

If it was the 1800s no...but it is 2019 so yes.

Depends on the person.

As a parent I would not want my child taught by someone that was 20 years old I don’t care if they had a bachelors or masters degree. If they were that smart to graduate from a college 20 years old or younger I would wonder why they are teaching at the high school. I would think that someone who graduated from college that young would want to further their education and obtain a PhD

Unusual but some 20 yo’s are more mature than some persons that are much older.

I think the job should need a college degree which you usually don't have at 20.

It does require one. At least here in Texas that is.
However, there are programs student start in HS where they can graduate college at 20.

Unless the state laws have changed, one doesn’t need a 4-yr degree to teach in FL.

Since this seems to vary or be up to debate, I change my vote: if he's qualified, age should not be an issue.

Even if the 20 year old was mature enough, I think it would be hard for him/her to gain the respect of their students as an authority figure. Some students wouldn’t take such a young teacher seriously. Especially the older ones.

If they’re qualified to teach the subject, I don’t see a problem.

Note* This is based off a real scenario.

That’s 2 years older than their students if they are teaching high school. That’s weird

Depends if they are teaching freshmen or seniors.

If a person graduates college at 20, which is possible through HS-Collegiate programs, it’s doubtful they will find a job allowing them to teach seniors. That’s what most teachers ultimately want, so senior teaching positions are generally saved for those who have been around.

But is there any real reason why they shouldn’t be teaching the class beyond “it’s weird”?

I think the students would be more actively trying to have sex with the teacher..

As long as they are fair about it and have sex with ALL the students I don’t see the problem
