Virginia was already trending to a full-on blue state, but Trump’s presidency has accelerated the process, which culminated in the state becoming a Democratic trifecta.

Agree it was already trending that way. What accelerated it was the crooked gerrymandering that occurred earlier this year.

The nation is already trending full on blue because of Trump. Virginia is a good example they were so red the last time Democrats held their statehouse was 2.5 decades ago. The trending is recent 😊

Disagree it was Trump’s election but rather the tens of millions Soros and sons pumped into the election of lefties in the state.

Anyone that has working eyes could tell you that.

Donald Trump is the worst thing to happen to the Republican Party (and one of the worst to the nation). He is wicked unpopular in many areas, and elections will continue to prove that.

Agree. Northern Virginia was moving left due a population moving into the state, but the Trump presidency caused other wealthy suburbs to flip

I think it’s likely more complex than that —

“Over the last five years, 80,000 more Virginians moved out than residents from other states moved in,” Lombard said. “Many were young families, which helped cause Virginia’s public school enrollment to decline last fall for the first time since 1984.”

I’ll add the article I took that from shortly but analysis will require a look at demographics and man other factors economic and social. 😊 still your point is well taken and I’m not saying you’re wrong. ...not exactly anyway.

Alabama once was a Democratic stronghold in the days of George Wallace. It is now a Republican stronghold,

That is correct. States change political affiliation every now and then. My argument is that recent shifts toward democrats in more purple, or even red, states is being exacerbated by the current Republican President.

Alabama was Democratic after the Civil war all those years because they blamed the party of Lincoln for the civil war and especially their role in reconstruction. Not the same Democrats of today and not the same party.

Any reading about reconstruction will prove profoundly enlightening in that regard and no doubt I’m right.

My point is ....parties change. The Democrat Party is going farther left just like the Republican Party is growing more conservative.

It’s true that Trump has caused many educated whites and suburban women to turn away from the GOP and that has contributed greatly to the Democratic advantage in Virginia. However, this may prove an anomaly considering many of these new Democrats were once Romney voters and are actually pretty conservative.

I can’t agree that they were already trending blue since this is the first time they held the legislature in over 2.5 decades .....I do fully agree Trump is the accelerator. 😊
