Headline from the “Lexington Herald Leader” Newspaper: Trump couldn’t save Matt Bevin in KY. Democrat Andy Beshear wins race for governor. KY is my home State. Is this a big deal or No?
Bevin never should have been governor in the first place. He was also insanely unpopular and Andy Beshear was crazy popular (also thanks to his work as AG and his father's work as Governor)
Hard to read this race for 2020.
I agree somewhat but Bevin was a phenom when he first got elected. I think he fooled a lotta people. He went to my hometown in rural KY and met privately in small group with people and charmed their Sox off and I’m sure that’s not the only place he did that. I know Democrats that voted for him last time in droves. He lost that.
The other guy won if you ask me basically and foremost by no being an A-Hole.
Bevins was a jerk. See skinner’s comment below I think he has the best read yet.
This is true. He handled the teacher protests horribly.
No. A bigger deal is the fact that the first black republican AG was elected in KY.
They didn’t mention that 😊
I’m not sure but it’s interesting. It sounds like Bevins was awful
How can a Trump virtual clone in policy and manner be terrible in a red state that’s been red for de. 😊
Red for decades.
I can’t answer you because I know virtually nothing about Kentucky or their politics.
I have seen local republicans say they won’t vote in the presidential election because they don’t like Trump and democrats say the same thing because “they all suck” (though honestly, I like Buttigieg). It may be that fence sitters could not bring themselves to vote for either party but enough democrats did vote. I don’t know. That’s a 100% guess on my part.
Don’t states swing from blue to purple to red and visa versa though? (Honest question, I don’t know the answer).
Bevin lost but Kentucky has seen the first black attorney general ever elected and the first republican in 70 years (a black republican). Secretary of State of Kentucky went to a republican. Agricultural commissioner went to a republican. State auditor went to a republican. State treasurer went to a republican.
Bevin was apparently very unpopular yet only lost by 5000 votes. Honestly, he just needs to be a man and concede.
So, the fact he lost seems to say more about Bevin than Trump.
I know about KY politics as it is my home State and I still follow closely even after moving away.
Bevin lost to a blue dog who is far more moderate than most Democrats. It’s not reflective of a national trend
Okay best and most thoughtful and rational answer I’ve heard yet from anyone .....including me 😊
That’s what Republicans should say if they wanna be taken seriously by everyone ....not just true believers in Trump.
You’re too kind!
😆 you got skills that’s all.
How did KY vote in the guy they just got rid of????? Short memory and bad for my - imho
It was his son.
Yeah. I misspoke
The dad wasn’t very good
Apparently they liked him slightly better than Bevin. 😊
Kentucky was a Democrat stronghold for years. The GOP’s gasp was weak. This isn’t a huge deal in and of itself, but could be if it signifies a larger trend to come.
Mississippi was a blowout for Trump but no one mentions that. Also this was an unpopular governor to begin with.
Some folks are mentioning that now it would have helped if Bevin hadn’t been a jerk people responded viscerally to that and it still was and is close.
Watch Senator Mitch McConnell. You’re next!
If a clod be washed away by Kentucky, the GOP is the less, as well as if a projection were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's defeat diminishes me, because I am involved in Trump world, and therefore never send to know for whom the vote tolls; it tolls for thee.
So was a democrat winning the governor...
Time will tell for Mitch...
My is interesting...they vote in a Dem for governor quite often, but on the national level they go Rep the majority of the time. Breshears father seemed to do well, so I think he was riding his fathers coattails.
Time will tell.
Ky my go Dem if they are a crazy liberal. If they are one of the crazy liberals you will see Ky go conservative.
Brings...I have family connections in Ky.
So do I it’s my home State. Family and friends I own property and do business there regularly. I also visit often.
Urban and rural.
I own property in Ky as well and my aunts, uncles and cousins all live there. I enjoy visiting.
Same story for me. Except my sisters and brothers live there too.
Too close to call, and Bevin was at 32 percent approval rating in July. Something or someone certainly helped him during the past three months.
I’m hoping not enough 😊
Bevin was deeply unpopular. The GOP performed well with the rest of the KY ticket.
Yes true 😊
😂 how can a Trump clone governor be deeply unpopular in a red state? 🧐 point to ponder indeed 😊
Bevin is not a trump clone.
He has been in a fight with the teachers union. That says it all
So Trump is union friendly?
Actually it’s too close to call but many of my friends and relatives are excited and indeed many are not happy. The incumbent is refusing to concede the race. Anyway time will tell but let me tell you this shouldn’t have even been close.
I hope this is a sign for the end of Mitch McConnell.
Yes ditto for me ☝️
Somehow McConnell always lands on his feet. I’m not sure why or how though.
