I make a yam bake every thanksgiving, but there isn’t a marshmallow in sight. I prepare the yams with milk, salt, butter, spices, and a hint of brown sugar. I top it with chopped pecans, cinnamon, flour, & butter.
That sounds good. My Mom has always candied sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving.
The one that mom preferred had orange juice & a pecan topping, but no marshmallows… It still did not seem tasty to me.
I’ve seen that recipe. I’m not all that crazy about pecans.
I picked blazed carrots, but neither of these really look that great to me. I love sweet potatoes, but I hate them prepared in a sweet potato casserole that’s super sweet, I prefer them in a savory preparation!!! (I actually spent most of my life thinking that I hated sweet potatoes, because I was only offered them in a sweet sweet potato casserole or sweet potato pie.)
I usually bake sweet potatoes and add salt and butter. On Thanksgiving I candy them because it’s tradition. I’m not fond of this type of sweet potato casserole myself.
I do like candied/glazed carrots. Clients would always ask me to make them.
I don’t really care for candied or glazed of either vegetable. I love both of them roasted!
My favorite way to have carrots is Copper Pennies. Have you ever had them that way?
With sweet potatoes, I typically roast them or sometimes mash them & season them with salt & pepper & sometimes sage.
Copper Pennies? I’ve never even heard of that?
I saw your message but when I try to reply it says error.
I got a new phone and tried logging in. It wouldn’t work. I tried sending an email to SOH and it came back undelivered. So I started a new account so I could respond to my polls.
Got it... @susanr - can you help with her getting back into her account?
I can sure try. I was about to ask snagglepuss(2) if that’s what had happened.
I’ll send you a PM if I hear back from them, snagglepuss - I already followed your “2” account.
I dislike the marshmallowy sweet potato casseroles too. Here’s the kind I usually make:
It’s fine without the cheese too. A couple times I’ve forgotten to either buy it, or add it.
That sounds delicious, SusanR!
Thanks for your help. That recipe looks nummy! 😺
For me that’s a double yuck. I like sweet potatoes with just butter on it I don’t like all that sugar on my food.
These recipes are for Thanksgiving.
I realize that. But I’ve never cared for either one of them. They’ll give me a pumpkin pie with a gallon of working cream on and I’m happy
A whole gallon! Lol I love pumpkin pie.
Might be a slight exaggeration.
Lol just a tad haha
Marshmallow ruins everything.
I don’t prepare sweet potatoes that way. I candy them with brown sugar and butter on Thanksgiving. Otherwise I just bake them and add butter and salt the rest of the year. I like marshmallows but in s’mores or a candy bar.
I just was curious how many like the classic recipe.
Neither! Cooked carrots and sweet potatoes are disgusting!! I picked the mushy carrots because marshmallows in anything but a dessert is just wrong.
Lol I never cook mushy carrots! I just soften them so they aren’t crunchy. I would never eat them myself if they were mushy. 😝
I totally agree. I like a sweet potato baked. With butter on it.
That’s how I normally prepare sweet potatoes. I just jazz them up on Thanksgiving.
I never have cared for them. I have a big sweet tooth but I guess those are overpowering.
Carrots are only good when raw. Otherwise it’s a no go for me! I love regular potatoes. Sweet potatoes don’t compare!!
I love sweet potatoes, just not in this marshmallow casserole.
I love carrots raw and cooked. Just not mushy. Lol
