The John Denver connection just flew over my head.
--->>> Whooosh !!! ·´´¯`·.¸¸.->
I just looked up John Denver songs and guess you were referencing "Thank God I'm a country boy".
I'm a city boy, but that's OK, the song fits anyway.
The joke was that John Denver was known for loving Colorado so much that he changed his name to John Denver - much like you as Don Wichita
California 8 [concurrently spending months at a time in Oregon; not counting separately]
Washington DC 1
West Virginia 8
Which was your favorite?
Each one was my favorite while I was living there, at least after I was a baby. Well, maybe not my *very* favorite, but I did like each of them a lot while I was living there.
There are really nice things about each place - local history, what’s happening culturally currently that’s interesting, the mix of people, the natural environment, etc. I *could* have stayed in any of those places for a lifetime and been happy. I could go back to *most* of them and be happy. I realize that’s a lot of blah blah blah that doesn’t say much. But it’s true.
My current favorite is - no shock here - Colorado. My city, in particular, is a fabulous place to live. Other than the high cost of housing, I don’t dislike any part of it.
Fort Collins if I remember correctly, yeah? We talked about it once upon a time when I was dating a guy from there. CSU would’ve been a possibility had i visited that town at an impressionable age
That’s right, Fort Collins. I sort of remember talking with you about it, but not really clearly. Wish my memory were better. I think you’ve been in Colorado once or twice since I’ve known you, too - weren’t you in Estes & RMNP a couple years ago?
I haven’t looked at CSU too closely, but from what I’ve gathered they have some programs I would have enjoyed. In particular, I wish I’d known about the woman who studied, wrote & taught about parasites and animal behavior.
New York, 42 yrs
Virginia, 5 years
I’ve been living in a state of confusion for at least 20 years. Before that, it was a state of denial, followed by intermittent states of euphoria, drunkenness, rage and happiness.
All this within the State of Massachusetts.
I suggest you leave the state of denial and go back to the states of happiness.
Need any help moving?
Oops, I mean “leave the state of confusion.”
I’m a little confused.
I can still help friends move when I’m slightly confused, though. I think.
See? Not that easy.
It’s like Al Pacino said: “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”
Pennsylvania, 18 years.
District of Columbia, 2 years.
Alrighty, let me think.........(gee, this is hard!)......
Ohio, 45 years.

California (22 years)
Florida (2 years)
Illinois 53 years
We'll see what happens after I retire in a year and a half. We will either move states, or spend our winters elsewhere.
I would highly recommend getting out of Illinois.
Do you think you understand Illinois's problems better than I do? Do you think you know what is best for me and my family?
I know the property taxes just sky rocketed. I know the budget isn't balanced. The state is about to undergo a constitutional crisis. Illinois is not going to get their pensions. They just raised taxation in general 5 billion. The Chicago economy is growing at necessary rates. The state is bleeding population so there will be less tax cattle to keep it floating. The state debt is just insane. And a bunch of other non economical reasons.
Illinois is a mess. And I don't want you to go through it.
So, you are saying that you understand Illinois's problems better than an informed, educated person who had lived here their whole life? You also think you know what is good for my family better than I do?
Well, isn't that presumptuous, egotistical, and ridiculous!!!
We managed to raise the sons successfully in Illinois and are financially secure. We are capable of making out own decisions and understand our situation better than you ever will.
I don't really think that. It's just you for some reason had to make this about me rather than the economic disaster that is Illinois. So I said yes because it was funny.
You didn't refute anything I said about your terrible state though. Says a lot about its financial situation.
Oh, I didn't disagree with any of your analysis. I just find it presumptuous for a person to give unsolicited advice to another person about huge life decisions like they know what is good for them.
And, Illinois has a lot to offer. Except for the terrible winters, I have enjoyed living here. We've been successful and all three of my sons have great jobs and are financially successful.
You take shit too personally.
Enjoy living in a crumbling state.
And, that's why I don't listen to people like you.
Nothing I said about Illinois was false.
It's a sinking a ship and you're getting mad I told you to seek a raft.
Umm, no. Not at all. I said I didn't disagree with anything you said. I said it was presumptuous to assume you know what is best for my life. I also said your comment was immature. Try to keep up!!
"How do you know a life raft will help me?"
Haha! How do you know I need a life raft? Isn't that the point? I'm successfully living in Illinois and don't need you to tell me to leave. If I want to leave because we feel that is right for us, we will. You can keep arguing, but my answer will always be the same. Yes, Illinois has problems. But, I don't need your advice on how to live my life. And, I'm pretty sure that if we decide to stay, we'll live out our life here happy and successful. Aren't you still in high school anyway? Do you even have enough life experience to try and give life advice to others? Probably not.
Calling me young is not an argument.
I could be 14 but what I say is not incorrect. Illinois is an economic disaster and you will feel the pain that comes with it if you don't get the hell out right now.
Keep arguing like this, I don't care. My statements still stand. And, yes, age does mean a lot when you are trying to give someone life advice. A high schooler doesn't understand how to factor in everything and doesn't even understand what all the factors are. Just your over the top idea that "the sky is falling" in itself shows you don't truly get it.
-I assume you're in high school.
Thus it's fact.
-being a high schooler means you can't understand that a hole in the ship means it will sink.
It's all so tiresome. You just label me something so you don't have to argue against the fact that Illinois is in economic turmoil and will cause all its citizens to suffer.
Haha! Umm, no. I've already agreed with you that Illinois has problems three times now.
Well then tell me how in the hell that all those problems together isn't going to lead to hardship?
We can keep going round and round here, but bottom line is that you don't know what is best for my family. Only I do. If you say otherwise you are just plain lying. And since you will just be lying, thus is the end of the conversation for me. Say anything you want, it will be incorrect, I'm sure.
