6-8M animals/yr go to shelters. More than half of that euthanized.
& yes, 25% already purebred at shelters. Purebred 'breeding' doesn't guarantee $, and health risks of intact: prone to prostititus, mammary cancer(most common cancer in dogs), and pymetra(can be deadly).

Google a Rottweiler rescue. Guaranteed there is one in your area. You will be getting a purebred and saving a life...all at once.

A dog is a dog. A pure and loving soul.
The whole point of rescue is to save homeless dogs and prevent breeders (especially horrible ones) from creating more ultimately homeless dogs.

Aggie obviously lacks something. I AGREE!! it's 100 million % important to spay & neuter your pets. As well as putting a collar on them! It takes 2 seconds and will save your pets life!

I'm pleased by the results, but still shocked at 30% of America and their egos behind having a 'purebred' while thousands of animals die each day who could have otherwise been rescued by the same 30% who decide to go buy purebreds. It truly makes me sad.

We rescued a purebred. She's the best dog I've ever owned. Her owners got arrested for drugs & dropped her at the groomers then never came back. Now she's a treasured part of our family.

Ummm...not challenge, Rambo. I was referencing your comments about putting down a sick pet (from the prior poll). Time to take the adrenaline down a few cc's.

When there are tens of thousands of shelter dogs killed every year it really is morally wrong to buy from a breeder. Period.

Reputable or not....there is a severe pet overpopulation and we dont need to be breeding dogs, period.

Disagree. People that buy pets a petstore perpetuate the market or bad breeders and puppy mills. There are tons of rescues that don't require fenced yards....or shelters too.

Those are mutts. Go to a shelter or check petfinder.com ... There's literally thousands of those mixes needing a home

You can rescue purebreds. And mutts, like yours :) next time. For now...love your pup...I'm sure he's awesome, just consider rescue next time. Thanks for even considering the other options.

Sorry, but I just believe that buying a purebred dog and not adopting or rescuing is just plain cold hearted. Please adopt!! There are rescues for every breed imaginable...please rescue....don't buy.

I got my doggy from a rescue organization where I volunteer. It's much better to rescue-there are tons of sweet animals that need good homes!

Adopted my cat from the shelter. I know it's asking about dogs, but she acts like a dog. Greets me at the door, plays fetch, chases her tail... Plus I work long days and couldn't really give a dog the attention that it would need.

Hate to be the statistical anomaly here, but I'm a white republican married to a black republican. Oh, and I adopted from the animal shelter as well. Sorry to burst your little hate speech there...

a great beagle from a rescue we would probably get one. Otherwise we might seek a reputable breeder to find one without all the issues our current dog has. I would have a dozen dogs if I had the room. There are many wonderful rescues that need homes.

I said rescue. We've had both mutts and purebred. Good and bad experiences with both. One mutt was fabulous! The other is sweet, but weird. Our purebred beagle came from Craigslist. She's a terrible example of a beagle, but we love her. Our purebred sheltie is a complete ding dong. If we could find

Since we consider our two rescue cats are just the bee's knees, we'd definitely adopt a rescue dog.
Hubby recently saw this rescue shelter bumper sticker that said something to the effect of "who rescued who?" Isn't that purrfect?!
