At a Republican Governors conference Mike Pence said ‘The president usurping power and end-running Congress is "a profound mistake."’ Do you agree with Mike Pence?
Congress just tacitly agreed that the border is an emergency by funding it at $1.3B. Trump is merely extending that line of thinking by declaring the emergency and applying the extra funds to complete the wall.
No, because he was talking about an actual president, and something a real president wouldn’t do anyway, not the current facsimile he's all the way up the butt of.
Zod ... we get that you’re hysterical.
For once, I agree with Mike Pence. Where did the decency and fundamentals go in this system?
Party and power over country, Constitution and principle.
I don’t believe the president is “usurping” power. Congress has abdicated their responsibility.
Trump is a “mistake”
Nowhere in that clip does he say the quote that you’ve mentioned. He also says newly minted Republican Congress....so how far back does this go?
It’s paraphrased....the transcripted quote won’t fit in a question.
Then it shouldn’t have quote marks around it. And I’m sure you could have condensed it to make it fit and STILL be a true quote. I do it all the time in my 1600 polls.
What about my question about how far back this goes...with a newly minted Republican Congress....wouldn’t that be at the beginning of his presidency? And if so, this is old news, and Pence might very well have changed his mind by now with all the obstruction going on.
Obstruction? 4JC, Trump couldn’t get anything done with both houses of Congress in his control. Regardless, McConnell is the biggest obstructionist in all of Congress.
He got PLENTY done when he had both houses. He’s kept more campaign promises of any president in my lifetime.
A year of achievement:
500 Days’ Accomplishments:
2) Trump has second highest own party presidential approval rating since WWII at 500 day mark:
“Swan also details how Trump has nearly wiped out Obama's legacy. Swan adds, "He’s exited the Paris climate deal; signed major tax cuts, especially for corporations; confirmed an ultra-conservative Supreme Court justice and record numbers of circuit court judges; deregulated like crazy; exited the Iran deal; exited the TPP trade deal; repealed the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate; and moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing it as Israel’s capital."
Great, so if the President is only decided by the President’s party, then Trump has nothing to worry about. But that’s not how it works, is it? I truly couldn’t care less about his approval within the Republican Party. What matters is his approval with independents. They delivered him the presidency, and they look poised to take it away given the right candidate.
You picked out one article of all of those and didn’t look at the others?
Well, if the numbers are any indication, it’s looking more and more like independents are leaning his way. Over 80% of them approved of his SOTU address. And his black approval rating has more than doubled, while among Hispanics, a distinct majority - 62 percent believed they were better off financially under Trump than they did under Obama.
And I’ve noticed since coming to SoH a major shift in independents. When I first came here a little over 2 years ago, most independents voted with Dems, while most Libertarians voted with Republicans. Now, most of the time, most independents are voting with Republicans and Libertarians, while Dems vote the exact opposite of all three other groups. The Dem party has swung so far left they’re losing independents!
Obama had a pen and a phone...
Don’t worry, Trump doesn’t read. He won’t ever find out unless Fox News talks about it.
Like when Obama found out his information from the news?😂
Awesome! Only four comments so far, and two of them are Obama whataboutisms.
Yeah, “forget what happened by his predecessor. Trump shouldn’t do it just because Obama did.”
More like this administration - and it’s zealots - have based their entire existence around Obama. It makes them apoplectic. Haunted by a ghost.
Funny how Trump’s declaration of a national emergency “sets a precedent” but not Obama’s actions. 😂
There’s nothing funny about the abuse of declaration of a national emergency, it undermines the entire premise. I did a poll on it a few weeks ago. It’s been a problem for 40 years.
What’s pathetic is the fact that you guys cannot get over a man he’s been completely out of office for two years, and you’ve already dismantled almost everything he accomplished in 8. He drives your every action and haunts your dreams.
And the first thing out of all your mouths is “… But… But Obama”
There is no abuse. We have a security crisis at the southern border that needs addressed immediately. Congress didn’t take it seriously so Trump did.
Yes, Obama’s policies were harmful to Americans so they needed dismantled. Other than his horrible policies and previous actions I couldn’t care less about him. But he’s the one that’s said he had a pen and a phone and a mandate from the American people and now you’re crying because Trump is doing the same thing. We told you it would set a precedent and now BAM!
Thanks for demonstrating your Obama apoplexy and proving my point.
And there isn’t a “emergency“ – that term is being abused. There is an issue that needs to be addressed. Fortunately for everyone, we have a process outlined in our constitution for dealing with things that affect the country. Perhaps you would like to reference the constitution.
In the meantime, save “emergency“ for things like earthquakes, hurricanes, and wars.
400,000 illegals CAUGHT crossing in 2018. That’s an emergency.
Armed migrants in camo fatigues crossing into the US. That’s an emergency.
Having Trump ads “support” your argument?!? You LOSE.
Did you hit your head?
You forgot but, but, but THE CLINTONS!!!
