An uninformed and politically illiterate electorate is the biggest danger to democracy.
It's one of the biggest dangers of democracy, but uninformed people can lead to democracy.
Democracy is chaos. I believe you meant “republic.”
There is no other explanation for how we have an inept, incompetent, functionally illiterate president like Donald Trump.
He makes the Idiots feel proud of themselves.
Hence the election of people like AOC.
The electorate has and will always be politically illiterate and uninformed. You can't expect an entire populace to understand the gritty detail of government, nor should you let them have a say in it either.
Someone clearly knows how to reinforce their own power, the more people believe it ,the more it is true.
Which is why I believe every voter should be required to pass a civics test on how our government works and answer questions about several important political issues.
Absolutely not. It would be abused like it was abused during the civil rights movement, and the government shouldn't inform people, the people should inform themselves.
i.redd.it/al4ywe3vwsmz.jpg Here it is, although if you were white and illiterate you’d likely be ok so long as you can write things that resemble letters (seriously there was one instance where an illiterate white man just wrote a line of letters resembling no words whatsoever who was deemed literate.
I have no doubts the reintroduction of a literacy test would also be abused, although almost definitely not in the same way, not that I’d expect an effective test to be developed even by someone doing so in good faith.
I also oppose it as it would be an utter waste of the electorate’s time, especially when so much of their time is wasted compared to other liberal democracies, frankly already it’s hard for me to justify standing in line for hours for such an ineffective activity.
No literacy tests, and no voting. Simple as that. The electorate won't inform themselves. They're idiots.
No, that would be a symptom of the larger societal conditions by which a large section of the population are disenfranchised
