Is the American economy/workforce still based on meritocracy?
I’m smart and effective at my job and I make a lot of money. People who suck the farts out of bus station waiting room seats have a far lower standard of living than me. That said, the super rich should be paying higher taxes on WEALTH. There should be no royalty in America, and 50 million in assets is royalty.
Still? When was it ever?
For the most part it is but the left directly and indirrctly continues to try to move things away from a meritocracy.
Shhh...there are a lot of people who ignore that Ayn Rand was a loon.
Still implies ever
I agree that it’s really never been an outright meritocracy.
Social justice and virtue signaling.
It isn’t now, nor has it ever resembled a meritocracy.
Hmm. So what then is/was it based on?
Private control and accumulation of capital.
It did about 50 years ago.
It was based on control and accumulation of capital back then, those conditions have been present for quite a while.
