Should companies be allowed to keep secrets?
Yes, trade secrets, development, and processes.
Not secrets like cover-ups, accounting misrepresentations, or deliberate manipulation of laws.
Can we get some more details on what type of secrets?
You mean like patent secrets or do you mean like this product we sell causes cancer secrets?
Depends on the secret. Most companies have proprietary information they need to keep secret to remain competitive. However, if a company is publicly traded, certain financial information must be made public per the SEC.
Sure, unless those secrets are harming people or they are breaking the law.
There would be no benefit to telling your competitors your secrets. Plus, the government makes companies keep some things secret like if you’re submitting an IPO, etc. My company is transparent with its employees and that’s big, but otherwise I’m fine with the status quo.
