Im Puerto Rican and grew up learning it as “Porto Rico” from my parent that was born there. I’ve been criticized and called fake by Non-PRs for not saying “Pwerto Rico”. Pre-WW2 the island It was pronounced “Porto”. Are Pwerto’s trying too hard?
