Insp General of DHS has said that ICE has failed to hold private contractors accountable for problems in detention facilities. Time to hire permanent staff instead of casual temporary employees?

Contractor accountability is always a difficult problem for federal agencies. Contractors are usually brought in and categorized by various Administrations and Congress as more efficient and cost effective when in fact that’s seldom true. Politically it’s the perfect answer for people who wanna reduce the size of government. Then the political appointees of the given administration simply won’t hold them accountable because they think it’s working and the right measure and often their idea.

Then future administrations get boxed in by congressional supporters who accuse the new administration of supporting inefficient government. Meanwhile, over time the cost of contracting is much more than if it weren’t contracted.

Absolutely correct, brings.
And that goes for all those high-priced mercenaries our military uses by calling them “consultants” or embassy aides. They are trained killers that don’t like following military rules and want a bigger paycheck than the military can pay them.
.... and we taxpayers are held hostage by these deals made by politicians. Blackwater got caught, but how many others are there that we taxpayers are overpaying for?
. Sorry , kinda got off-topic there.

Exactly right on military contractors. I have friends who got off active duty went to work for these companies making oftentimes triple their military salaries — many stopped quickly because they didn’t like the nature of the work. The types you describe are the ones who stayed.

Yes and this is addressed in Trump’s proposal for funding of border security including the barrier. Unfortunately, the Democrats won’t support it.

Why does it need to be addressed in a funding bill?

And how, specifically, is it addressed?

The trump admin also paid 13.6 million dollars to a contractor to hire 7,500 border security agents over 5 years... after ten months they had hired.... two.

Two agents.

But we keep getting told that the private sector does everything better.

That is true, worst ... I nearly fell over when it was revealed that only 2 had been hired.
So - where IS that $?? It can’t just be laying idle on the books as it’s far too much to hide.
