It did not make sense to me either when I was young but as you get older, some of us lose (hopefully not you) circulation in our feet and hands so they are always cold.
It seems like the socks would act as insulation, and keep the cold in rather than helping to warm the feet. Unless the socks are electrically heated, of course.
That’s what the blankets are for. I wouldn’t wear clothes to bed, and socks are included in that. My feet are no more likely to get or be cold than the rest of me.
Well, that’s a different story. I know some people don’t wear clothes to bed, so obviously, socks are included in that. You didn’t say that, in the first place.
I don’t understand that, either ... But, if it works for you, that’s great! I could never be comfortable in bed, with no clothes!
I know you wear clean socks to bed, Alice. For me, it’s not about germs. It’s about my feet feeling trapped under the sheets due to the friction socks cause. My feet like to feel free.
In my case my extremities are always cold. When I go to the grocery I often wear light gloves in SUMMER or else my fingers will turn white. This week with the cold I had my gloves off outside for less than a minute and I was in pain (10 degrees maybe). My feet don’t have that problem but if they feel cold I can’t sleep. This week I have flannel sheets, 3 blankets and a comforter on my bed🥶 and I’m not in Chicago!
I RARELY wear socks to bed intentionally. The ONLY time I do, is when I’ve had flu, and my whole body shivered with chills. That’s it. The other exception: Camping. I’ve camped (Translated: Outdoors, high altitude, tents and bags!) in some FRIGID temps!
