Numerous reporters have criticized NFL cheerleaders, saying that the occupation is demeaning/degrading and needs to end. One even asked why there arent scantily dressed men dancing around. What are your thoughts?

Notice how none of the cheerleaders are in these “plights of the woman” schticks. Sorry ladies, but it looks like your lard ass is jealous that they are paid for their looks and acrobatic skills.

If you perceive the display as sexual and you condone the display, does that mean you also condone the sexual objectification of the dancer?

It’s literally voluntary employment, so nobody’s opinion matters because they chose to be there.

Their life their choice. People are too concerned with what other people do with their lives these days.

They don’t make much $ but it’s a way to get your face on the screen, show any kind of talent you have, network with movers and shakers in the entertainment business. If one’s goal is to get noticed, it’s a great job. If anyone sees it as exploitation, then that person is wrong, They offer themselves to be exploited, they are selling a product - themselves.
IMHO.

They chose to become cheerleaders. It’s consensual. How is this even remotely an issue?

They chose that job, nobody forced them to go there. They can leave if the want.

Put all these women out of a job that they want to protect them? No, that doesn’t seem like a great idea.

I know. I cant remember exactly how long ago but I know in recent years there was a big push to get them better pay...and now theres a push that they're not needed at all.

What happened to a woman’s right to choose what she does? Why do these killjoys believe they should get to eliminate something that a lot of young women very much enjoy just because it offends their self righteous sensibilities?

I swear, in many ways, it’s like the left and right have switched sides. This is some shit I would have expected out of the radical religious right several decades back. Now, it’s coming from the left. These people need to get a life and stop trying to control the lives of others.

Well, along with their good aims feminism has, from the start, included an element that wants to make sure no man enjoys the sight of a woman. Every movement has its extremes, and every movement goes too far.

They can’t say that anymore. The LA Rams have two male cheerleaders now. www.ebony.com/news/super-bowl-to-have-male-cheerleaders-for-the-first-time/

Well there you go! That's what I thought was funny...the story contradicts itself. Do you want the profession to end or do you want it to be more inclusive and include men? (Or it may just be that if women are in a 'degrading' profession, men should be too, because equality)

Yeah, if I had done cheer my whole life and if I were in super good shape I’d do it.

Considering the number cheerleaders who try out for those positions, there are a lot of women out there who disagree with the premise. I doubt many of the complainers are football fans to begin with.

Who cares? They aren’t forced. I’ve you’ve got it, flaunt it. You couldn’t pay me enough money to do that... given my stellar dance moves nobody would want to anyway thoπŸ˜”

Given that there is a line of women out the door begging to be cheerleaders.....I really don’t think it’s exploitive.

It is competitive....the pay is crap for most teams. And this provokes a thought...I may post a poll on this topic later.

Hm, shit pay and its STILL competitive.

This leads me to believe that the women involved don't mind the job at all.

What are you talking about? Did you read the attached article? This is movement to destroy the lives of young women who love cheering and it’s coming from the left of the political spectrum... multiple leftist outlets, in fact, and you’re blaming the author of the article? For what? Pointing out what leftist killjoys want to do?

I read it. It was tripe.

And no, I don’t want to ban cheerleaders either.

Cheerleading is very similar to gymnastics. I don’t see anyone saying that their outfits are too minimal.

People are always searching for an excuse to be outraged. πŸ™„

I agree and the excuses are getting more and more outrageous regularly. Also, there's no need to search; it's more of a free for all choose one for the day mentality.

Being an attractive female shouldn’t be degrading.
There should be a group that stands up for a woman’s right to choose.

The left claims to be just that. Hence the hypocrisy of these reporters. It doesnt pay well, so my guess is these cheerleaders are doing it because it's what they want to do. Who would chooce a degrading profession that pays poor and is highly competitive? Hmmm.

Casper Deep inthe Heart ofTexas

Could it be those that can’t compete that feel degraded?

Cooper831 Wisconsin

Possible but I think they're misplacing the feeling of rejection, normal part of life in any occupation.

Praetorianus Fair enough.

An entertaining job, not degrading at all but men should be allowed to be cheerleaders again.
