I don’t know about other states, but most school systems in the state of AL hire their own school bus drivers, and the money to pay for them comes from the state board of education. So each individual superintendent of schools makes the decision for his school system.
There are a FEW systems in the state of AL that contract out their school bus drivers....meaning that they pay a company outside of the school system and that company provides buses and drivers. But I would NEVER work for a system like that OR put my kids or grandkids on a bus in that kind of system, as every major accident I’ve seen, where kids were killed, was one that was contracted out. They don’t have the same standards for drivers, training, and rules as the state board of ed for AL has.
2) We had one in the city of Huntsville....you might have heard of it, since it was national news....it was a contracted company. The driver didn’t have his seat belt on, landed in the stairwell, and the bus went nose first off an interstate overpass. Killed him and multiple kids.
If a driver for the state had not been wearing his seatbelt, it’s an IMMEDIATE firing if he’s caught not wearing it.
Shows an overturned school bus in the snow. Caption reads;
The School Closing Dilemma:
You are a superintendent who has been notified that the National Weather Service is predicting snow or ice and possibly dangerous driving conditions. You are aware that thousands of school children will be riding buses, and hundreds of teen-agers will be driving.
You are also aware that, if nothing happens, you will be lambasted and mocked by parents and tax-payers. What do you do? Do you say, “I’ll believe it when I see it, or do you cancel classes?
I can’t speak for you, but I would rather be a fool fifty times, than be fatally wrong once.
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! I just posted 4 other sets of pic polls, much along the same lines, about the so called blizzard that AL was supposed to have, that we didn’t! LOL
