Have you ever seriously thought you were going to die? (Happened to me last night!)

Got stuck in a blizzard and tried to walk the last mile home. Visibility was so bad that I almost passed my street. If that had happened I would be dead. I have never feared for my life before that day.

Yes. Thought I was going to die in a car crash. Thought I was going to die from cancer. Thankfully I’m still alive!

One of the things I find beautiful about Tibetan Buddhism is the contemplation of death. Our society is so conditioned to ignoring or suppressing thoughts of death… we have a youth-focused culture, we hide our seniors out of sight in nursing homes, talking about death (a natural part of life) is considered gruesome or at least not cool, etc. There’s something to be said for confronting death head on and using the awareness of one’s mortality as an impetus to live a better life.

When I had pneumonia. I was sick for three weeks. I coughed so hard I threw up. My ribs and stomach were sore. It was an awful time.

I hope you’re OK!

It was awful but thanks to a good medical team I got better. I have had the pneumonia vaccine and haven’t had it since.

I was working a lot of 16 hour shifts and under a lot of stress. I caught a cold that kept coming back. If you have a cold for more than two weeks it’s best to go to your doctor to see if it’s something more.

I’ve experienced turbulence that frightened me, not a good feeling. I’m glad you made it!

Last night I had the scariest flight landing of my life. The plane was whipping around in heavy turbulence right until the moment we touched down. After we landed they announced they had a medical emergency on board so everyone had to stay in their seats while they rushed a lady off. I wonder if they chanced the landing because of that. It did not feel safe to land in those high winds!

Anyway, I’ve been reevaluating a lot of my priorities after that. Nothing like a little brush with death to make one really want to live their life to the fullest!!! 😀

Glad you’re ok. But even gladder that you were able to take, what sounds like, a tremendous profit from the adventure.😺

Thanks! Happy to be alive. I agree, Geez. Good to turn a negative into a positive. As part of my epiphany I’m going to try to be more empathetic. This extends to SOH so hopefully some of you will benefit too. ;)

That doesn’t mean I’ll sacrifice my principles, but I’ll try to be more understanding and less confrontational.
