Are you for or against making it easier for American citizens to vote?
Make voting mandatory.
And if you don’t like the candidates, check an “abstain” box. At least you have to show up.
California makes it ridiculously easy to vote....early voting, Election Day registration, ballot harvesting, signing up when you get your drivers license and I am sure illegals are voting here since no one cares.
That's odd. You're sure and yet Trumps Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity came up with nothing.
Mob rule sounds dangerous.
You mean... representational democracy?
yea I mean, what if someone says “hey let’s take all the wealth of the 1% and divvy it up among the rest of us?” if everyone can tap on their phone “yea”or “nay,” won’t the measure pass 99%-1%?
You apparently have no idea whatsoever what we're talking about.
Yeah, Q, take a Civics class.
While we’re at it we should get rid of the electoral college too.
Easier for Americans yes harder for illegals and dead people
I mean every study out there says they don’t soooooo...
Okay so you have 19 people hardly enough to sway an election and an opinion piece that sights no sources.
19 they caught . It happens and it should not
Sure but the real issue is that most laws that try to prevent this stop citizens from being able to vote.
Such as an ID to prove your are who you say ?
Sure but the real issue is that most laws that try to prevent this stop citizens from being able to *buy guns. (ftfy)
Okay I want you to actually picture this scenario. For a Voter ID law to work then you need to imagine that illegal immigrants are scrounging through voter rolls to find people who aren’t able to vote then walking in and hoping no one asks why “Fred Whitestaff” or whatever is speaking with a Hispanic accent. The real issue is on the registration side not the voting side.
Define what harder means?
Well, how about driving to your polling place after work in wintertime to stand in line potentially for hours vs. making election day a federal holiday?
People have gone to polling station for ages and yet now it's a problem...sounds like those complaining about needing an ID to vote. If we can't figure out how to protect a physical voting station how in the world will we protect online voting...minus well hand it to the Chinese and Russians...oh wait too late.
“Well, how about driving to your polling place after work in wintertime to stand in line potentially for hours vs. making election day a federal holiday?”
That is not harder. That is what we do now.
Try early voting or getting an absentee ballot. Lame excuse
Try doing that in states that dont allow it.
Which ones are those?
Article does not say they don’t have early voting or absentee ballots.
In a recent study from Northern Illinois University, Virginia ranked 49th in an analysis of inconveniences faced by voters across the country.
Michael Pomante is a co-author on the study. He says Virginia’s low ranking can be attributed to a number of different policies:
CREDIT NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
“Virginia has, you must be registered in 22 days in advance. That’s a significant burden on voters. The state also doesn’t have any early voting. When it comes to absentee voting, they require an excuse and supporting evidence depending on the excuse," says Pomante. "And then, they are also requiring strict voter ID laws.”
Pomante says the state could drastically alter its position in the rankings by making the voter registration process easier. That could come in the form of Election Day or automatic registration policies.
Virginia did receive one positive note – online registration, which was implemented back in 2013.
Absentee Voting: All states will mail an absentee ballot to certain voters who request one. The voter may return the ballot by mail or in person
Define what making it harder means?
“Virginia has, you must be registered in 22 days in advance”
Oh god, how horrible.
LOL! Attikai, how embarrassing!
I am against direct and total democracy because of how easy people are manipulated. Voting isn’t a joke and shouldn’t be something you can do with no commitment. U allow emails and other things and you’ll get bots buying up elections for ignorantly falling for pitches
Jerry, read the Hill article so you know what we're discussing.
The article you posted is GQ, also very biased. The entire premise of the article that minorities can’t do basic things like register to vote is rooted in racism
Jerry, please read the article I posted from thehill.com.
I didn’t see it in the comments, but It sounds like it’s pretty shady. 6 days paid leave for federal employees to “vote”. Sounds like it is blatantly enticing unethical electioneering.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday blasted a key House Democratic proposal over a provision that would make Election Day a federal holiday.
If that’s his argument, why not swap it out for another federal holiday? Columbus Day is just a few weeks before and is controversial. Kill two birds with one stone.
Republicans have long had an election problem. The more people vote, the worse they tend to get beaten. So the solution, since at least the 1970s, has been pretty cut and dry: Figure out who's likely to vote against them, and prevent them from voting. It may be a more circuitous approach than falsifying votes or straight up hacking an election, but it gives them an air of democratic legitimacy, even though they're actively fighting against the foundations of democracy.
Literally every article that douche writes is a smear of the GOP or praising the left. Get out of your NPC echo chamber and put down the soy products.
