I like her, I just think she gets a little out there sometimes. I like what she is about but she said and tried to do something dumb. She didn't want to reopen the government because she said to negotiate over wall issue would be supporting ICE.
@smart1
@rons
I have a tree farm. Rons is correct. From usda.gov—
“Controlled burning can be managed or controlled to reduce the intensity and magnitude of bigger wildfires by reducing the accumulation of flammable fuels.”
My father very much enjoyed removing underbrush from between rows of trees on the tree farm. He was practicing good forest management and getting good exercise at the same time.
I’ve learned that many ideas and so-called facts that the general public believes are not accurate; many of those ideas are downright lies.
BTW, it’s okay to use paper. When tree farmers clear cut, they then replant or reforest. The problem is so many people moving into areas that used to be forestland. That’s the reason so much wildlife roams into the suburbs and cities looking for food and habitat.
There are 33 million acres of forest in California. 57% of that belongs to the federal government. How many federal employees would it take to rake 33 million acres and how often would they have to do it on a yearly basis?
See if you can apply your logic to my question.
Let’s go back to 33 million acres of forest 57% controlled by the federal government. How many full time federal employees would it take to rake 19 million acres and how often would they have to do it?
You, like all the critics who are literalists when you can misunderstand Trumps meaning. Systematic techniques of forest management/ wild land management has been abandoned in CA in favor of a “environmental” ideology for decades. That ideology contributed to the magnitude of devastation of the fire.
You manage in layers giving priority to areas adjoining populated/ developed areas, powerline ROW.All fires cannot be prevented. No one is suggesting that.
You all would rather focus on Trumps apparently misstep than California’s serial ideological mismanagement.
No, you want to shift the conversation away from the “environmentalistideology “ that Trump was pointing out as a major contributor to the devastation. Here is an article by a Finnish Science & Policy Advisor who corroborates Trumps remarks that more active management based on science is better than the CA Ideological non-management.
“The catastrophic fires seen in California and elsewhere are not due to climate change – natural or manmade – although warmer, drier, windier weather can certainly be a major contributing factor. The important point is that foresters must adapt to both weather and climate change, and revise past practices that are now known to cause serious problems. They must manage forests better, more scientifically and more responsibly, with special attention to areas where large populations of people reside.”
No, but they do have on their adjoining lands and near developed areas. They have abandoned management for ideological reasons. That has been know for a very long time.
So Smart is saying the fires were only on Federal land! I thought it spreading into California un-managed land. Guess he’s right that there is no need to do fire management.
I wasn’t saying the Feds should rake. Our tree farm is only 260 acres, not millions of acres. The Feds use equipment—and controlled burning—to clear underbrush and dead, fallen trees.
One of the problems is that the Forest Service has been somewhat conflicted about controlled burning for many years. Also the radical environmentalists, who often don’t seem to know the difference between old growth timber and sustainable tree crops, screech at the top of their lungs about cutting or burning anything. They also have been known to spike trees which can severely wound or kill loggers. Another huge problem is all the people who have built houses in and next to forested areas, encroaching on animal habitats as well. It’s ironic that many of those people consider themselves to be environmentalists. President Trump may not be an expert on wildfires, but neither are many others who proclaim to be so. The Forest Service is learning. Some others need to do the same.
SA ... it appears that you messed up when you described your political affiliation in your SoH profile. There’s nothing either Independent or Libertarian about your views and you certainly aren’t a Republican.
It appears that you’re trying to compete with Ms Ocasio-Cortez for being the most clueless in America.
Lady ... you’re right, you still have nothing to say! Please keep trying. Using your words to try to express yourself is better than your usual childish emoticons.
